Samuel L. Jackson’s performance in Django Unchained doesn’t get praised enough. He steals the show in my opinion.
Idk if I'd say he stole the show, so many great performances, but man what a character. More on reddit.com

Can someone explain if Samuel L. Jackson's character in Django Unchained has some special meaning?
He is someone that benefited from a system that oppressed his entire race, he is set up to be almost as bad as Candy was More on reddit.com

In Django Unchained (2012) we are first introduced to Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson) as he fills out a check. He even signs his master’s name. Stephen has full control of the finances, foreshadowing the revelation that he is the true master and Candie is simply an illiterate puppet.
At that time in Mississippi, it was illegal to teach slaves to read and write. If Candie really was illiterate, I think that should raise the question: who taught Stephen to read and write? More on reddit.com

January 8, 2025 - Him and Leo were great together as well, Django is a fantastic movie which gets credit but maybe isn't talked about enough ... Agreed. I also think that with regard to the actors, Waltz and Leo’s performances (as phenomenal as they were) were talked about more than Uncle Sam’s. He was kinda overshadowed by those two during the awards race tbh. ... To be fair, Samuel L. Jackson steals the show in every role he's in.

Samuel L. Jackson on Django Unchained and Being Bill Cosby’s Stand-in
December 18, 2012 - Ever since his turn as an Ezekiel-spewing thug in Pulp Fiction, Samuel L. Jackson has perfected the art of playing irritable, outspoken types, frequently of moral ambiguity. He’s now a bona fide bad guy in Quentin Tarantino’s latest, the slave-revenge fantasy Django Unchained, this time playing a very different alpha-male role: manipulative house slave.
