If the mattress you're buying is a pillowtop, then this breaking in process can feel like a rapid loss of support and lead to an uncomfortable "sink" in the middle of the bed. Conversely, rapid softening of the comfort materials can also allow you to engage with the support system more easily and thus increase the support of the mattress. So it's complicated. Me and my wife just bought a Serta Blissful Excellence Chandy Bay Firm mattress, we went to the store and tried out a bunch and it was the one we found most comfortable in our budget. Now after the sale I decide to do some research and find out this sub has basically declared Serta the worst of the worst and I'm worried I bought junk. We came from a Jamison mattress that lasted all of 4 years and the last 2 of that were very uncomfortable. I know they get alot of flac here but is Serta really THAT bad? I understand it's a budget matress and I don't expect it to last 10 years but I don't want it to be wore out in 6 months either. If it lasts 4 or 5 years I'll be happy. It hasn't been delivered yet and I actually called to see if I could back out but all sales are final and my only option would be a one time exchange for another matress which would equate to over double the cost to go with a different brand we also liked.
I'm really regretting not researching this before hand but that's just not something I thought about with buying a matress, we went and found one we liked in our budget and bought it.
So do I gamble and hope it lasts a decent while or do I just blow our budget and finances out of the water to go with something different.
