No one gets two years worth of severance. It's something like 6 months at best. The primary reason behind severance is decreasing risks of lawsuits, but also making a company look better for prospective hires. When you're getting similar offers from company A and company B, and company A provides 2 weeks of severance, while company B provides 4 months, people are more likely to choose B. When the recession is over, "companies like google" will start hiring again. Who is more likely to attract employees, Google that provided 6 months of severance, or Twitter whose Chief Twit said "fuck you, I'm not paying"?

I posted last weekend about retaliation from my paternity leave and things have escalated. Meeting with HR tomorrow for my final day, I assume.
Looking to negotiate and settle with the company. Is the offer they gave reasonable for 4 years in the company or should I expect more?
Leaving 50-60k on the table in June. So the 8 weeks of pay doesn’t even come close to covering that.

My husband was with the company for 13 years as a product line manager (system engineer manager) and he got 14 weeks of severance with one month of health insurance. We are in Los Angeles. HR won’t budge and negotiate when we tried to negotiate his severance offer. They necessarily don’t have to offer any severance if they don’t want to.
