You aren't missing anything, I think that's a typo. The pre motor filters need cleaning monthly, and replacing when they start to wear out. More on reddit.com

Searched the model and found one result from an online vacuum parts supply store, but it's pricy. Your only other option is to get lucky on ebay. As you know, it's almost 20 years old. I recently purchased a Shark Navigator vacuum from Costco, and I am trying to find replacement filters online to purchase to have on hand for when we need them. I have searched and searched and I cannot find any filters that show that they are compatible with model # UV730.
Could anyone please tell me the part number or send me a link to the correct filters?

Shark Navigator’s filter system will last the life of your vacuum, with minimal maintenance and zero replacement costs. The filters are washable by rinsing them with water. We recommend that the pre-motor filters should be washed every 3 months under normal use. The post-motor filter should be washed once every 12 months or as needed.
