Safe to use galv Sheet for a fire pit?
Steel for DIY Fire Pit - Advice Needed - TractorByNet
Need help with a fire pit design using sheet metal please!
You sure you want to be getting that galvanized steel nice and hot?
More on reddit.comMade myself a collapsible backyard fire pit out of plain steel. Works great! Cut from a single sheet of 4x4ft 3/16 inch thick steel plate.
I have endless supplies of off cuts of galv sheet metal. I know it will kill you if you weld it.... but how dangerous is it to use in a wood fueled fire pit?
How folks,
I am on a budget and trying to build a smokeless firepit. The video's on YouTube all have fire rings but they are more money than I can spend. I have a bunch of old galvanized sheet metal lying around and figured I could use that. I just need to be able to attach it to itself. Can I just use the regular hex self driving screws or should I drill a hole and use nuts/bolts.
I am building a stone firepit (with lots of air holes at the bottom) and making it into a rounded rectangle shape. One end will have a grill and prep surfaces beside it.
The plan is to have a removable section of the metal fire ring so I can remove it and shove coals into the grill section when it is time to cook. Then drop it down again to maintain the smokeless firepit seal.
I am wondering if it will "ruin" the smokeless effect if I make a hole for the grill and leave it open. Not to keen on the engineering required to do that and not sure if I could make a flap/door that swings open for coals...
Any thoughts are appreciated.
I got the idea for the smokeless bit from a guy on youtube, looks neat.
Thanks folks!
