i was thinking about a new revenue stream ,so yeah nothing original a themed website with merch .
anyway had a quick look at advertising and it just does not seem to add up ,unless i've got it wrong
bing $0.90 per click in my sector conversion rate 2.8% so back of the envelope calculation lets say 3 sales from every 100 customers cost me $90.00 and from 3 sales id be lucky to do $20.00 profit .
i guess you could build an audience using mail chimp but whatever that is not a viable business model ?

Not only is it worth it, it is 100% necessary. But the equation is going to be whether or not you have a product people want to buy. You can’t just say “oh, I want to make money, so I’m gonna sling shit online”. You need a product, a good product. Re: Bing, it’s really only effective for B2B and even then it’s not as good, it’s just slightly cheaper, B2C it is practically useless. The Bing algorithm toward user intent and behavior sucks balls Here’s the model we use: (sale price-cogs)*2= base CPA, (sale price-cogs)*3=max CPA. Minimum free shipping threshold encourages larger cart volumes, and lifetime customer value is increased via email and sms marketing. Also, you WILL operate at a loss for the first few months while you build up a catalog of repeat customers and the algorithm learns how best to serve your ads for max conversion. If you’re starting from scratch, go heavy on brand awareness focus campaigns; YouTube, discovery, programmatic displays… and then double down with remarketing towards those who visit your site. I personally see better results with Criteo than I do on google. This has been our model the last six months and we’ve gone from about 40k per month at the start of the year, and are on track for 230k this month. We spend about 70k per month in ads.

You can absolutely run a webstore with just a basic plan and free ads. I pay the shopify yearly subscription, domain, and use stamps.com for mail. I think all together I spend $500 a year on my website. As it grows, I may add apps, but it's doing just fine for where I am.

If you’re not making any sales without paid social ads or marketing, then stop what you’re doing right now and focus on conversion rate optimisation strategies. It’s pointless to throw your money on paid ads if your website is not optimised for conversions in the first place. The second issue is understanding how meta business suite, audiences, lookalike audiences and pixel setup works. If you don’t even know your own demographics on top of not properly setting up tracking of conversions, you’ll not be able to scale and make use of LAL from Facebook. Then there’s the ad creatives planning and knowing how to test the creatives against each other for horizontal or vertical scaling.

I'd like to jump in here for future interest as I'm in the same boat with an even lower ad spending budget (max ~10€ a day) and my mind absolutely cannot comprehend how people suggest throwing hundreds of Euros at a wall with ads in hopes that it sticks when starting out. Seems like super high risk to me
