I saw a data point recently on the csmajors discord of their NG TC this year being 260k first year 210 recurring. Will prob need to investigate a bit more but it looks like they wisened up.

Many of the quant firms on levels have information for quant roles and not SWE. Last year, SIG paid $50 for interns. It is highly unlikely the $100 is for SWE and rather for their trading position.

SIG is a great firm, but they even straight up admit that the upside is low. They get you with a 3 year noncompete and they will straight up tell you as you get the offer that they consider this a trade-off; you get a SIG "education" in return of 1 year assistant + 3 year trading "low" bonuses (admittedly all-in comp for their assistant positions is respectable due to the high base.) SIG is very corparate-y which has pros and cons.

The dough is good after you get in the door. I knew a guy from the macro team when I lived in philly and he had a considerable amount of his own capital in a prop pool (the way he described it to me was the firms money aka his stake with the firm) he was short the major indices before December 31st 2018 and cleaned up a nice trade for his team. I think he said he was doing 1/2 a stick a year. He was like 30. I think it also matters what desk you work on: ETF, equities, fixed income, options/commodities etc.

So I was somewhat bored over spring break and I thought it would be fun to extract, clean, and display some of the salary data that's been accumulating over the years in the 'official salary sharing' threads. I also have a somewhat vested interest in interpreting this data, since I am a student myself and will be an intern this summer.

Do note that this graph only shows salary data averaged across each company. Some companies only had one salary listed, and thus, may not be accurately represented by the salary sharing data. For example, Two Sigma is listed as over $80/hour because of one salary, but in reality, most interns will not get that (there was a bidding war for the person with said offer). If you are unsure of why something seems off, I would advise looking at the raw data below, since the graph was constructed from whatever is listed.

I choose to ignore additional details like housing stipends and signing/relocation bonuses. Everything was converted to hourly rates by using the following metrics: 40 hours/week, 4.35 weeks/month, 52 weeks/year. matplotlib was used to plot the data.

These are often just cash payments as well (i.e. you don’t need to spend all or any of your housing stipend on housing). Some companies put a large percentage of intern comp in these bonuses while others don’t give them at all, so it drastically skews the numbers. Anyway cool visualization regardless

I think I read somewhere that Jane Street summer interns were getting around 25k for 3 months (plus flights and accommodation paid assuming you have to travel), but that was a while back and was anecdotal

How is the pay (if you don't mind sharing) like for front office dev role? Is the bonus structure any good? How is the quality of the work that is produced? Often times when working with trades esp. as developers you're treated as second class citizens, is that the case here?

The trader offer is 150k base, 50k target annual bonus first year. Sadly i know little about the pure developers but i would be surprised if there was a huge gap for first year since the intern offers are pretty similar

I interned there as a trading assistant and as far as I could tell, the only people treated as "second class citizens" were the IT/Help desk staff, so you should probably be good. I didn't get a full time offer (thanks 08 recession) so idk first hand about comp but one of my ex's friends was dating a trader there who was making $450 a year in his late 20's. So purely anecdotal.
