I researched it for a long time (versus the other ones) as I loved the idea of three sides and how large it was. However, I saw something that the sides aren’t properly adjustable, and that the little round closeup mirror can’t be moved anywhere else. I got one of the round ones instead and am quite happy with it for closeup make-up application. Still hoping simple human check some of the negative reviews on the existing trio mirror and fix it, then I’d definitely get it. I would really recommend to just check the reviews on the website and watch some YouTube reviews, that’s what I did before deciding and it helped a lot, no regrets here :) More on reddit.com

What is the driving force behind your desire for a simplehuman mirror vs. something like a Conair or Ott-lite?

Here are some cons: the latest and greatest 8" Sensor Mirror Pro doesn't have the same height adjustments as the original, but the original 8" Sensor Mirror only has one level of magnification and the motion sensor is overly sensitive/not adjustable so it does go on and off easily (that was my biggest issue with the originals). If you are getting any of the round mirrors, they are all magnifying, so if you want to see a normal view of yourself, you'll need an additional mirror. The Wide mirror doesn't have any magnification, has a ridiculously large footprint, and the adjustable side panels never felt as sleek/well-made compared to most simplehuman products to me. If you don't have an Apple or Android phone, you will not be able to take advantage of the newer features on the Pro models (they are app-based last I looked).

If you are getting the 8" version, the latest model ("Sensor Mirror Pro"), which is more expensive than the original one, is improved over the original in a lot of ways. There were real cons to the first one that they addressed in the latest model (though you have to be able to use their mobile app!) - e.g. being able to change how short/long it stays on, it has a detachable (magnetic) mini mirror that has additional magnification (it sits on the center of the mirror when you want to use it and when not, it's on the back), and adjust the brightness/tone of the light.

The quality of the light and mirror are great across all models I've tried (Pro, 8" Original, 5" Original, Pro Wide-View), and I used the original 8" nearly daily and never had an issue with it holding a charge/recharging nor has the light dimmed or gone out. I also have the smaller one, which I probably use more often (not daily but for 2-3 hours at a time with a lot of on and off), and it is also still going strong. (I believe it's been two years.) It uses LED lights, and the press relesae listed they're supposed to last for over 40,000 hours (works out to be 55 years of two hours of daily usage or over 100 years of one hour, daily usage).

I'm not a fan of the Pro Wide-View (unless for some reason you can't mount a mirror on a wall, I just find it lacking in functionality for as much space on a counter/vanity it takes up). I think the 5" is only useful if you NEED 10X for the majority of your makeup. I use mine primarily for applying lip products for swatches or for plucking stray brow hairs. Even for eyeshadow, it is useful, but I prefer 5x magnification to be able to blend better but still have a better picture of what everything looks like normally.

I just got it! Oh man it is bright! I got it from the SimpleHuman site because I’ve heard the lights can go out sometimes. My biggest qualm is the sensor part. Even when I turn the sensor off (a button annoyingly UNDER the base) the light stays on. It turns off if I even reach over which can be quite annoying. However the quality of the mirror and the brightness of the light are fabulous! I have my mirror on top of my vanity dresser (the horizontal ones) which has a mirror on it, so I can get the full picture too. I like that it can be raised pretty high, because I do my makeup standing at my dresser. The lighting in my room isn’t great, but this mirror makes it possible to do makeup at any hour and with any amount of outside or overhead lighting. Should it cost $200? No. Would I be just as happy to pay $50 less (estimating) and have a mirror that just has an on/off switch rather than a sensor? Yes. But does this fit my needs? Yes. More on reddit.com

These mirrors are amazing! They're from Conair and are one sided. The smaller one is 8X magnifying. I got it off Amazon for $13. They normally sell for $35! The larger mirror is 5X magnifying. It's $100 normally. Bought it with points and a 20% off coupon. They both have 5ft cords and the LED lights on them are super bright. Perfect for makeup application. I wanted to return the smaller one, but Amazon won't allow it so if anyone can think of a way to use this for travel, let me know! Overall these are wonderful. I can't compare them to SimpleHuman since I don't own one but they are similar in size. I haven't seen anything on them so I thought I would share the info!
