March 12, 2020Is there any particular reason why recent SNL uploads (to youtube) aren't available for people outside the US??
Because SNL (as in SNL's parent corporation and production company) has different distribution deals with media outlets in different countries.
NBC doesn't necessarily retain the right to distribute online content in foreign markets where they've sold those rights to local stakeholders.
For example, in Canada, Global TV has the traditional broadcast and exclusive online distribution rights to SNL content. Since Global TV wants to make money off their website (by selling ads, subscriptions, etc.), they would get super pissed if NBC or SeeSo or Hulu let Canadians watch the same content that they (Global) are trying to monetize through their site.
It's a crappy situation for regular consumers and it would be awesome if rights-holders could figure out how to do online distribution across borders without all the artificially imposed restrictions. But that's life.

As a Canadian, I can totally relate. Everything is unavailable in our country. Like, Hulu, Pandora, good shows on Netflix etc.
