Soldering Accessories, must haves and tips.
The solder with those butane soldering irons are often not for electronics and it's a lot thicker than you would want if you are using it for electronics. I use 0.6mm solder wire but 0.8mm would be most people's first choice. Search YouTube for sdg electronics. He does some reviews of difference solder and fluxes, some of which you can get from aliexpress etc. I'm not a fan of leaded solder use (or at least learning to solder with it), but it is what most people typically use. You can also buy fluxes and solder wire from places like element14, digikey, mouser. You're typically getting great quality, brand labelled, traceable product from these guys and pay a little more for it. Once you are more into what you're working on and what size tips you have, you can make more informed choices on solder wire options. Some of the aliexpress choices only seem cheaper because they give you such little wire. Look for length and weight. Don't forget compatible flux options. Solder wire often has a flux core inside the wire, but more flux is nearly always warranted. Learn to tin your tips BEFORE you turn the heat on. You might want cellulose wipe pad, brass wool, IPA (isopropyl alcohol), acetone, dispensers, tweezers. Read the guide on the side and if you have further question post them. More on reddit.com

What items are an absolutely necessity for soldering?
Couple of quick thoughts: Your list looks pretty good. Be careful with that tinning block - you shouldn't really use it unless your tip is otherwise beyond repair. It's fairly active and will accelerate the wear of the tip, so only use it if you really need to. I concur with the other posters about the eutectic alloy (63/37). Don't cheap out on solder wick. It's not that expensive in any case but the only ones I've ever been happy with were from Techspray or MG Chemicals. Generally speaking I don't buy chemicals/solder/flux unless they're from one of these: Kester Chip-quick MG Chemicals Techspray On that note don't ever buy anything from the "Mechanix" brand or whatever it is. Sparkfun sells it and it's total shit. For solder I'd stick with Kester. A 1lb spool will last you quite a long time. Good fluxes to have on hand: Rosin (RA/RMA) No-clean (I use Chip-Quick 291) Kester 951 (water-thin but quite good) It's good practice not to mix flux types in one session, i.e. no-clean flux in your solder and rosin flux added externally. But I do this all the time and haven't had a problem yet... I would add a couple things that I personally like to have around: Acid brushes (horsehair brushes with the metal handles). They're cheap and very useful. 99.9% Isopropyl alcohol Flux remover - does what it says and very well. I prefer the MG Chemicals heavy duty flux remover, you can buy it on amazon. The spray cans are great and get PCBs clean in a hurry but I find them very wasteful considering the cost. Better to buy a container that you can pour into a beaker, will last way longer. Syringes and dispensing needles. 3-5mL syringes are the tits for dispensing flux and whatever else you might need. A pack of 100 is like 10 bucks on Amazon, and you can get an assortment of dispensing needles for another 10. A small collection of pyrex beakers. Pretty cheap and useful for handling chemicals rather than dipping brushes into a large container of something (and then contaminating it). For the solder sucker, get one of these. Accept no substitutes. Those smaller ones they sell on Sparkfun and elsewhere I've found to be crap compared to the "original." I won't use anything else. An anti-static wrist strap is a good start but make sure you have a good ground connection. Static dissipative/ESD work mats are pretty useful as well. You can get a 2x4' mat with the grounding attachment point already installed for maybe 40-50 bucks. Again, make sure it's grounded properly and check that there is a resistor installed between the strap and the grounding point (most wrist straps should have one integrated). This is for your safety in case something goes wrong with your mains wiring. For wires, it's good to have some of the standard hook-up wire on hand but I like to keep some nicer wire around as well. Using nice silicone stranded wire vs the usual hook up wire is night and day. Having good wire will really make your life easier when you need it. You don't have to go overboard - Adafruit has lots of pretty nice silicone-insulated wire at good prices. If you need nice heavier gauge wire check out Robot Marketplace - you can buy by the foot. Good wire is one of the most overlooked things IMHO and makes your life SO much easier. I assume by electronic blower you meant canned air? If you have (or have a friend who has) a Costco membership, buy it there. It's like 16 bucks for a pack of 6, won't find it cheaper anywhere else. Good luck! :) More on reddit.com

Soldering Accessories, must haves and tips.
A solder for electronics is good, since plumbing solder often contains acid based flux and risks corroding electronics. And some loose electronics flux can be very helpful sometimes (look into what flux does to know when to use it). That aside a brass tip cleaner, sponge/coiled, is a huge step up from the minuscule wet sponge that comes with the pinecil. (I'm not a good source for links, since I haven't watched any guides and buy from physical stores) More on reddit.com

Recommendations for better soldering accessories/workflow

Instead of a sponge, I use this tip cleaner.

I use a standard helping hands but instead of gripping it with both clips and trying to suspend the board in the air, I just clip one on the top of the board and have the bottom edge of the board touch the table so the board is angled at about 45 degrees.

Resistor lead forming tools can help if you want to avoid using pliers.

Since I don't use the magnifying lens on the helping hands, I removed it and put my roll of solder there. I would also recommend using the thinnest solder you can (I think I'm using 0.015" diameter).

I've found that with tricky pads and SMD parts it really helps to have a flux pen on hand.
