No - you can run it offline - it'll just play whatever's on the memory card. Obvs you need internet for streaming, but not for local play back. The cassette-visualisation thing plays regardless of internet.

Like Mark said, no internet required. Mine runs offline almost all the time, but it's nice to have the option to listen to Spotify or a podcast once in a while. Go get it 😜
