Looking for suggestions for a wall mount good for brick and mortar with sound bar attachment. I own a 55" Samsung UN55NU800F. Not entirely sure on the weight, maybe 40lbs? I'm looking for something that will allow me to have it as close to the wall as possible, but still enough room to hide cords and a power strip.
Also could use some tips around hanging wall mounts on brick - I'm a noob.
Any info is appreciated!
so I don't actually own a "modern" samsung soundbar, I have the q90r, from 2020. but I just moved and connected to new wifi and then it updated eventhough it was on the lastest version and guess what, update failed and it's bricked, just like all of you guys are experiencing. the software seems to be the very similar in the way it works and i tried for like 12 hours to get it working again but no luck. I think there needs to be massive consequences for whoever is in charge of the software design of these soundbars. the soundbar should ALWAYS allow the user to start a factory reset, but I cannot understand how samsung software engineers did not take this functionality into account and just let all these soundbars with failed updates brick and become possible e-waste. especially if they have such a flaky update process.
Hey folks,
Q990D user here, wanted to let you know about some things I discovered throughout my journey with Samsung soundbars so far. In order to be COMPLETELY safe with your soundbar until Samsung will eventually notice what they've done, here are some advices that you could find useful:
-
Turn off SmartThings Auto Updates by going into Settings and change the "Auto update devices and services" to Off -> BUT this is just an assumption that it might stop auto updates on your soundbar so I wouldn't say you're entirely safe with that!
-
Disconnect your soundbar from WIFI until this mess gets eventually fixed -> there are 3 options for that:
- most reasonable is to change your WIFI network's name, even by a character, so that your soundbar will look for your initial network's name and will not find it ( and no, you cannot simply disconnect the soundbar from the network like you would do on your phone )
- least reasonable is to factory reset your soundbar and not configure the WIFI network in the setup process -> you would lose your settings and if you won't connect it via SmartThings, some tweaks will not be available using remote only!!!
- you can completely deactivate the WIFI on your soundbar by pressing the CH LEVEL button on the remote for 30 seconds -> BUT, in my case, my soundbar would just display "Network disconnected" once every 2 seconds and so I am unable to consider this option
I preferred the most reasonable option to slightly alter my WiFi network's name and keep it like that for now.
In any case, make yourself a favor and DO NOT update your soundbar, even with USB, it's just a PLACEBO effect, nothing really changes so if your soundbar was working perfectly fine up until now, leave it like that.
Remember, Samsung only does significant software changes once a year, when they release a new model :)
LATER EDIT: Thanks for your inputs as well! Looks like there is an even more convenient solution, that involves blocking the soundbar MAC address in the router's connected devices list so you won't have to alter the network's name and re-connect other devices from your home. I have an ASUS router and I kind of achieved that through parental control ( kind of an old router though ).
Mods, I've made a post about this and it was removed. I've made it more specific as per the rules.
Like the title says, I'm wondering if L brackets can hold weight if the "shelving" is around 15 inches out. I have a TV mounted over a fireplace (I know, I know, but there's no complaints from guests) and no where to really mount the sound bar. It has speakers on the top so I need it to be in front of the TV.
Here are some pictures: https://imgur.com/a/ofH9cGb
The space from the brick to where the mounts on the sound bar would be to be in front of the TV is 15 inches. I was thinking about putting 2 L brackets with 2 pieces of wood to hold the sound bar just far enough.
It'd look like this: https://imgur.com/a/FV3mn9E
I've looked into another option which is buying a bracket so that the sound bar hangs off the TV. I don't want to go that route to avoid adding more weight onto the TV mount.
