I've been using Tough Armor in my previous 2 phones with great success, protecting my phones from countless drops (I'm clumsy like that). Yes, the stand broke after a year or two, but the drop protection was top notch.
This time however the case is nothing like before. After applying the Spigen glass protector and lens covers, here's the results:
Front side:
Side lips of are ~0mm, same height with screen. 0 protection.
Top and bottom lips are less than 1mm from screen height. Dropping the phone would compress the margins and impact the screen, I'm sure of it.
Rear Side:
With lens covers on, the case back is flush with the lenses. No bueno.
Not sure what's going on here, but for a Tough Armor case this is a joke. Even the Torras case has double the clearance height at the top and bottom of the screen. 0mm at the sides though, such a shame.
I also bought the Spigen Slim Armor case, and funnily enough it actually seems to accomplish what the Tough Armor case is supposed to do, but doesn't.
It has high enough lips on all sides at the front and the lenses are 1mm recessed in the back, with lens covers on. The case itself also has more yellow soft rubber inside and is actually slightly bigger and heavier than Tough Armor. Spigen, what is going on! Only negative thing about it are the volume+power buttons are very hard to feel by hand. I always end up clicking the wrong button in the dark.
What was your experience with the Tough Armor case with the S24 Ultra? Did I get a faulty case or something?
I'm just curious if anyone knows if there is a difference in drop rating between cases? I see on the site the rugged armor, liquid air armor, and tough armor all say 'military drop certified'. Are they all certified to the same height? Or are they certified for different heights based on case?
