Queen split adjustable mattress and base - Mattress Talk - Mattress Underground
Does anyone have experience with the Queen split adjustable base and mattress? I’ve got to get an adjustable to help a Parkinson’s mobility partner get out of bed. He is very weak and needs the boost sitting up. We have a queen which is a good size for us. More on forum.mattressunderground.com
Split Queen Adjustable..?
All of your reasons to have one are spot on. The issue with a split queen is that you and your wife will only have about 29" +/- 1" of actual width while in your respective mattresses. For a visual crib mattresses are also 29" wide. If you truly go with a split queen adjustable set it's likely you will pay at least the same amount of money as a split king adjustable set but you will have comparatively 8" less sleeping area per side in a queen vs. king set up. Plus getting sheets and protectors will always be an issue and more pricey. The difference over all in width of a queen to a (eastern, traditional) king is 16" the length is the same for both at 80". Put a sheet of copy paper (8.5" x 11") beside your bed or nightstand (with 8.5" side parallel to the side of your nightstand or mattress) on the floor on each side of the bed. This now represents a king size bed set. If you have a queen now and if you can comfortably maneuver in the room (doors, closets, windows) around that new width you can fit a king size. Split king versus queen you will be far happier with the extra space and the investment will be equal to, possibly less, than a split queen set up as some companies treat this as a special order or offer at the same pricing as a twin extra long mattress (1/2 of a king). Tempurpedic offers split queen bases. A simple search on Amazon will show you if others offer them. We actually do our best to talk customers out of a split queen for these reasons we share. They are a return/exchange waiting to happen. Me personally I am 32" wide from outer point of shoulder to shoulder so as a back sleeper I am exceeding the width of a queen. Of course I'm not you but if you are average to slightly above average it's likely you'll quickly use the space up. One last other thing to know if you do go split queen is to a avoid a foam encased mattress of any kind. Not that this feature is a bad one but in a split queen and even in a king application the denser/firmer foam rail around the perimeter also now resides in the middle/split of your bed. This means that in the middle you will have a far firmer area measuring 6-8" in width. This area will not be as comfortable as the rest of your bed. And lastly we always recommend in split set ups to avoid quilted top mattresses. They magnify the split and create a valley between you and your wife. Stick with non-quilted flat top mattresses. Can't say for sure, but Heart Mattress makes their own mattresses so can make custom work (they already make mattresses with different firmness on each side). We are very happy with our mattress from them, and their prices are very competitive. More on reddit.com

How do you keep a split queen adjustable bed together?
The mattresses on a split adjustable bed can sometimes slide during the night as partners change positions, causing a gap to form between the mattresses. Slick sheets can add to the problem. To avoid this inconvenience, shoppers can purchase non-slip pads that go between the mattress and the bed frame. Split queen adjustable bed users can also buy mattress suspenders that pull the two mattresses together and prevent a gap from forming in the middle of the bed.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Split Queen Adjustable..?
July 18, 2017 -
Hey, gang - I tried searching here, but found nothing.. my wife has acid reflux, and was looking to get an adjustable bed to help with that (she's tried a wedge pillow, but it doesn't really help enough). I, on the other hand, have difficulty sleeping when not flat.
We don't have room for a king or two twin beds, so we've been looking for a split queen where each side is individually adjustable. I've found split queens, but it seem that even though they are split, the move in tandem.
Any thoughts on where to find one, or if they even exist?
Thanks in advance!

Split queen is sort of a "custom" sizing (like split Cal King), which means less options. I know there are split queen adjustables (Tempurpedic Ergo Premier was the only one my location carried and you had to order both pieces, totaling it up to $4k+), but I am not sure of the mattress. You would have to see if the base units were separate (plug in on their own, have their own remote, etc.), because if that is the case, they should be able to operate separately. Split queen is usually used in the circumstance of a foundation/adjustable not being able to be carried up to someone's room as one piece, so these situations aren't being factored. Hopyfully, it starts becoming a more mainstream thing and people have more options in the future. I hate to say it, but I think Sleep Number might have a split queen set up (mattress + base). I am not 100% sure, since I don't deal with them, but I think I may have seen one in a commercial.

What is the best split adjustable bed?.
I find that going from sleeping flat to sitting/getting up makes my oxygen level plummet. When I sleep in the easy chair I don’t experience the plummet but rather I stay at good oxy level. I want to sleep with my spouse, so I’m looking for the best split (or duo) control bed/mattress.
