If you already have the perfect bed frame and don't want to change it, you're in luck. Many of the adjustable beds on the market today work with any existing bed frame. With adjustable or removable legs, most split queen adjustable beds fit neatly within the boundaries of a bed frame, meaning you don't have to worry about whether the item matches your carefully chosen furnishings. How do you keep a split queen adjustable bed together?
The mattresses on a split adjustable bed can sometimes slide during the night as partners change positions, causing a gap to form between the mattresses. Slick sheets can add to the problem. To avoid this inconvenience, shoppers can purchase non-slip pads that go between the mattress and the bed frame. Split queen adjustable bed users can also buy mattress suspenders that pull the two mattresses together and prevent a gap from forming in the middle of the bed.

Do you need to buy new sheets?
At 30 inches by 80 inches, each mattress in a split queen adjustable bed is an unusual size, so regular twin size sheets won't fit. Additionally, because the mattresses are individually adjustable, each requires its own fitted sheet. It's often easiest to find split queen sheets online. The sheets you purchase for your split model should come with either elastic corners or straps to keep them from sliding as the mattress is adjusted. Buyers can also use clips and other specially designed fasteners to hold the sheets in place.

Need a split queen mattress if such a thing even exists as hubby and I have totally different PPP
Rolling together in a queen is most often caused by the bedframe and second most often caused by the foundation. It is actually rarely the mattresses fault. Maybe you’ve already done this, but before you spend a lot of money on a new bed, have you insured that your bedframe has legs in the center to support it, and you have a strong foundation under the mattress? The best way to check. This is have one if you lay on the floor looking under the bed at the foundation. Then have the second person get in the bed and move around if you see the bottom of that foundation sagging down or flexing at all, you know you have a problem with your frame. More on reddit.com

Adjustable split-Queen recommendations?
I think finding a base that would accommodate this would be difficult also. Maybe just a normal mattress and partner uses a wedge pillow to elevate their head? More on reddit.com

Split Queen Adjustable..?
All of your reasons to have one are spot on. The issue with a split queen is that you and your wife will only have about 29" +/- 1" of actual width while in your respective mattresses. For a visual crib mattresses are also 29" wide. If you truly go with a split queen adjustable set it's likely you will pay at least the same amount of money as a split king adjustable set but you will have comparatively 8" less sleeping area per side in a queen vs. king set up. Plus getting sheets and protectors will always be an issue and more pricey. The difference over all in width of a queen to a (eastern, traditional) king is 16" the length is the same for both at 80". Put a sheet of copy paper (8.5" x 11") beside your bed or nightstand (with 8.5" side parallel to the side of your nightstand or mattress) on the floor on each side of the bed. This now represents a king size bed set. If you have a queen now and if you can comfortably maneuver in the room (doors, closets, windows) around that new width you can fit a king size. Split king versus queen you will be far happier with the extra space and the investment will be equal to, possibly less, than a split queen set up as some companies treat this as a special order or offer at the same pricing as a twin extra long mattress (1/2 of a king). Tempurpedic offers split queen bases. A simple search on Amazon will show you if others offer them. We actually do our best to talk customers out of a split queen for these reasons we share. They are a return/exchange waiting to happen. Me personally I am 32" wide from outer point of shoulder to shoulder so as a back sleeper I am exceeding the width of a queen. Of course I'm not you but if you are average to slightly above average it's likely you'll quickly use the space up. One last other thing to know if you do go split queen is to a avoid a foam encased mattress of any kind. Not that this feature is a bad one but in a split queen and even in a king application the denser/firmer foam rail around the perimeter also now resides in the middle/split of your bed. This means that in the middle you will have a far firmer area measuring 6-8" in width. This area will not be as comfortable as the rest of your bed. And lastly we always recommend in split set ups to avoid quilted top mattresses. They magnify the split and create a valley between you and your wife. Stick with non-quilted flat top mattresses. Split Queen Box Spring. Any place to get one on the cheap? Any place to avoid?
I just went through this because I have a queen mattress. Honestly, you should check out the Zinus elevated bed frame, box-spring replacement. I just got one for $65, it's much easier to transport/deal with than a box spring...and literally the same thing. Box springs don't even have springs in them anymore, so they can be a total waste of money. (I have fallen for this, trust me, haha). Plus, with this, you don't need to buy a bed frame — and you get over a foot of storage under your bed now. This thing sets up really easily, folds down so you can move it easier than a box spring, and is much cheaper. I spent like $300 on a split-queen box spring set from The Original Mattress Factory. r/Mattress on Reddit: Need a split queen mattress if such a thing even exists as hubby and I have totally different PPP
November 8, 2023 -

We don't have room for a King, even though that's a good idea. Small apartment. We need a queen mattress, big time STAT. If we were ON the bed rather than falling INTO the crater IN the center of the bed, a queen is fine. After 6 mos there was a big crater in the center. Now at 18mos, it's even worse and we both wake up in a ton of pain, esp shoulder. This was the 3rd Ashley Furniture replacement. Worse than the previous 2 somehow.

Hubby: 5'6"/230lbs, 45, side sleeper due to pain, structural, neurological, adema, it actually hurts for him to lie on back although he'd prefer it. Lots of shoulder pain.

Me: 135 lbs 5'2", 43, back sleeper, ½ the time w cat on my lap or legs. multiple sclerosis, neck & shoulder pain, some lower back *need motion isolation as I am a light sleeper. Also decent edge support because I realize that's lacking and we're getting older, or at least our disability is, and need this to be as future friendly as possible.

(*Not asking for medical advice, some of the pain is caused by the bed, but I know a better mattress won't fix it, just looking to undo whatever this last Ashley has done to us)

I have been mattress searching for months. Back in the day (8yrs ago?) Inherited a free sleep #. Idk what type. It was awesome. That was before they were smart beds. Couldn't take it w us in the move. Also we live in Florida and it's WAY too hot/humid.

Memory foam is too hot, pillow top feels great for a short time, would love a flippable coil mattress or maybe latex mattress or a topper, haven't tried latex, but sounds interesting.

Before the interwebs rabbit hole of mattresses on Reddit, I had it narrowed to Dream cloud or Nolah. I have since learned from reading nearly everything on this sub that's not right either.

Now I'm looking at either Costco and possible return, or a DIY Mattress but need to get it right ASAP bc we need to sleep. We may have different needs for firmness/support/compression. Unless we do a DIY topper that has the comfort layers adjusted. He may need a zoned support to prevent the middle sagging crater but heard this isn't good for a side sleeper but it is for a back sleeper... yet worthy distribution creates the middle crater.

Would like to keep budget under 1k, as we're on fixed income and we need to replace our car right now as transmission died. A car and a bed, sucks to need both, but both vital to getting on w life at the same time.

The "foundation" from the 1st Ashley bed is way less supportive than some Amazon boxes I give my cat!! We need a bunkie board or boxspring.

Current set up is 32" h from floor. Prefer about 24". Current bed frame: 9.75" from floor where the bottom of the board/foundation/bed will sit. That gives us about 14-16" for both mattress and box spring unless we can do a bunkie board.

I'm sure better pillows would help too, at least 1/3 of what's going on. I hate mine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading!

*** It doesn't need to be split queen or even air. In fact I just read on TMU why that is inherently bad and meant to fail. When I had the free sleep # bed, I was single and 100lb soaking wet. So there's that. So, depending, if I'm a lighter (average back sleeper) but hubby is heavier side sleeper, won't my medium feel soft to him? I'm looking at IDL and understand none of it! But would getting what he needs - super high density maybe 3-4" think latex top comfort layer to help him - would that be too much for me? Maybe we only need split toppers but the same core, either zoned coil or normal, or even latex. Idk?*
