I have troubles finding some nice MX keycap sets including 2.25u and 2.75u space bar. I prefer dye subbed PBT caps, no flashy colors and somewhat retro looking fonts e.g. Dolch DSA, ideally for 30-60euros.
Do you have any suggestions? This is the layout I have currently planned:

With dedicated space bars, no, not at that price range. What you can always do is to take the two standard shift keys. As the layout that I'm using has 2u and 1u shift the 2.75u and 2.25u are available to use as space bars. I'm currently using a PBT winmix set from kdbfans that is similar to oem/cherry but has sharper edges. https://kbdfans.com/products/winmx-pbt-dye-sub-keycaps?_pos=4&_sid=7df29b681&_ss=r The quality is great for the price. I actually prefer it to my GMK keyset.
thoughts on split spacebars
As i only use my left thumb for spacebar, I never liked the general concept of wasting such a long space with single spacebar. I always prefer split space bar, but only 2 of my boards support that. Unfortunately, i am bound to use the normal long spacebar on my other boards. More on reddit.com

November 28, 2023 - Even on my Q3 with a normal 6.25u spacebar, I also have a 1.25u spacebar key where Right-Alt would normally be. I remapped to swap R-Alt with R-Super, and set R-Super as Compose. But since L-Super and R-Super then had different functions, I couldn't let myself use the same keycap legend for both, and I had nothing else suitable except the 1.25u spacebar since it was blank.

November 21, 2012 - Originally I also experimented with adding switches to an existing pcb: In the upper MX numpads I replaced the double-spaced locations of return and plus with two single keys each to gain a 4x6 matrix layout: If you get all the right drill sizes and have a steady hand and a good alignment guide it is not that difficult to put new switches on the board - repairing the damage to existing traces might be a different story If you're lucky there isn't too much to do underneath the spacebar, however. The plastic part of the stabilizers that is mounted on the pcb shouldn't be a problem, I have plenty of spares - but I do not know whether I have any metal pieces that fit your keycaps.
