r/StandingDesk on Reddit: What storage solutions did you pair with your standing desk?
October 12, 2023 -

I just got a 48" Vernal standing desk (which I really love so far, by the way). But I didn't realize until I switched how much I miss the drawers in my old desk. I want to add some storage to my new setup that will let me store extra writing utensils, stationery, office supplies, etc. without cluttering my desk space. I'm trying to avoid under-desk drawers since it'll mess up the desk height I can use while sitting.

I do have a monitor stand with one small drawer, but it's not deep enough or large enough to store all my items. I'm thinking about either getting a couple of new monitor stands or buying a return / storage cabinet that can play nice with my Vernal for an L-shaped setup.

If I get a separate cabinet, I want something really short--under 25" so I can store it partially under my desk--and something with legs so I can place it over the desk's C-leg. I'd also like something with shallower drawers (i.e. not storage cubes like IKEA Kallax).

Have any of you tried out any great options that meet these needs? I would love to hear about them! Thanks!

r/StandingDesk on Reddit: Need help finding a standing desk with built in storage
October 30, 2021 -

I've been in the market for a standing desk for some time. I've been doing a lot of research and haven't really found much that matches what I am looking for at a reasonable price. My requirements are the following:

  • Desk has some sort of storage built in, ideally a couple of sets of drawers on each side

  • Good cable management and something that doesn't look like dorm room furniture

  • Ability to support 3+ monitors

This is my current setup (please excuse the horrible editing): https://imgur.com/a/KFSEZgD

3 of the walls have built-ins and 1 wall is a window, so I don't have anywhere I can just set a desk up against a wall.

The closest I've found that would work are these: https://www.zurifurniture.com/office/ford-adjustable-height-desk-black-oak https://www.standupdesks.com/sit-stand-executive-desk

Both are too expensive and the desk from Zuri would make things a bit tight in the room. The current desk is 66 in wide x 33 in deep and is probably the max the room can fit. Ideally I would like to spend around $1,500 USD since I am able to get reimburse that amount. I may be willing to spend a total of $2,000 USD if it is the perfect desk.

I am also open to the idea of building a desk. To make that work I would need good plans since I am not a very handy person.

Any ideas?

r/StandingDesk on Reddit: Losing desk shelves and storage when switching to adjustable desk?
August 10, 2021 -

I currently have a Fredde desk from ikea, and an ergonomic office chair. Thinking about getting a height adjustable desk.

What I like about my current desk is that it has lots of shelves for storage. From what I've seen, most height adjustable desks are just a flat desk, perhaps with a tiny shelf for a keyboard underneath. I guess adding some kind of shelving to the top of the desk itself, like I'm used to, would be awkward. Perhaps I'll exceed the weight limit if I put too much stuff on an adjustable desk?

What's the best way to replace my desk shelves? Wall shelves? (I own my home, can drill into concrete wall.) Drawers/cabinets under the desk? Where do I put all my stuff? (Desktop PC with monitor, 2 speakers, subwoofer, lamp, a couple of books...)

Never had an adjustable desk before. Any tips or ideas are welcome!

r/StandingDesk on Reddit: Storage?
May 15, 2020 -

I went ahead and ordered a Jarvis to replace my regular sitting desk. The thing that I just can't figure out is storage. My desk now has three nice drawers that I use for pencils, sharpies, notepads, USB sticks, cables, post-its, printer cartridges, headphones, spoons, screwdrivers, old phones, mail I should shred, tiny bottles of tobasco sauce, bourbon, girl scout cookies, unused raspberry pi and ESP32 boards, drugs, tape, checkbooks (what ARE these things), SDHC cards, etc.

While I fully understand I should clean my shit up and stop using my desk drawers as junk drawers, it's really helpful to have some storage in the desk, for the things that are necessary, or in transition to the trash.

What do you folks use? Are there any really nice undermount solutions? Right now I'm considering getting an Ikea Svalnas and mounting it to the underside. I've also seen some really ugly metal things I could use, but I'd like something that looks at least somewhat decent. I'm looking for a nice solution integrated into the desk, rather than a standalone unit for storage, because that's much more likely to get turned into a junk drawer.

Hey all what did you do for desk storage? My bf and I are both building desks and trying to pick storage systems for papers, extra electronics, pens, files, etc. I've seen storage/file cabinets sold on uplift/autonomous etc, but I'm wondering what people have actually used and liked. I am leaning towards a bookshelf off to the side, he's thinking a storage cabinet underneath, but would like a few sized drawers, not just 2-3 big ones (aka maybe one thin one for pens/stamps).

I got a 2 drawer file cabinet under my desk, from Uplift, so it exactly matches my desk frame (small drawer + file drawer). I have very few paper files, but keep things I need handy in it, like charging cables, pens, sticky notes, and reference books. I like that I don’t have to move to grab items, but they are put away and not collecting dust. I’d only recommend an under-desk cabinet for 72” + wide desks (assuming you sit centered), as if mine was narrower my legs would be cramped next to the cabinet. They can also be placed next to the desk, Then I have a collapsable fabric storage bench which holds extra junk (mostly from my old office job) and can be a guest seat. My office is a bedroom in my house, but the closet was already full of gift wrap and shipping boxes and such I don’t have another place for. Plus I didn’t want to only have a desk and chair in the room and nothing else - the 2 storage pieces helped fill out the room. Plus I got geeky wall art; it was fun to decorate just for me, as the rest of the house is for both me and my husband.

personally, I think it depends on what you want to store. i had a set of drawers from ikea that i used to keep under my desk, mainly because i needed a filing drawer, and kept a bunch of random things in the other drawers. if you need to store books and such then you could get a bookcase or a drawer and hutch set. if i got a shelf now, though, it’d mainly be for decoration items rather than use

So I’ve recently made the switch to a standing desk, but I’ve had to sacrifice the plus sized drawers that were holding up my old table. I’ve narrowed down what I need, but would like to have space for more miscellaneous items if the need arises.

I’d like to split them all into Art, Work, GF/Contacts, Miscellaneous (controller/juggle pile) if possible. The largest object is the Wacom at 11.5in x 18in x 4in, with laptop at 12.5in x 9in.

I have space on the back left of desk and behind the right monitor. There’s some space outside the left leg of the desk, but I enjoy my leg space under the desk.

r/StandingDesk on Reddit: Under-desk drawers, UPS solutions?
April 29, 2021 -

First, thanks to everyone who has posted here for basically the past several years. I've been lurking, searching, reading, and the info I've found here has pulled me back from the brink of buying an Uplift desk, and instead put me on the path of ordering an Apex Pro frame from DeskHaus to be finished off with a butcher block top.

While I wait on those pieces, however, I am focusing on some of the finer details of my future desk, and I'm hoping that people here have opinions:

  1. I'd like to have some kind of drawer storage at the desk to hold a laptop and random desk clutter, similar to the "Locking Under Desk Drawer with Shelf" that Uplift sells. I see that Amazon carries something from Vivo that is pretty similar, though slightly smaller. Any experience with these or similar options that you'd recommend buying or avoiding?

  2. How are you dealing with UPS power needs? It seems like the "cleanest" power solution would be to only have a single power cable from the desk to the wall, but that seems like it would mean either having the UPS on the desk, or routing everything to a concealed power strip at the desk, which is in turn plugged into a UPS on the floor (which, as I understand it, is strongly discouraged).

Now that I've ordered my standing desk (coming from a traditional desk/drawer), what's the best way to manage storage? (shout out to folks here who posted pictures/info to help me with the process) I'm incline to grab a cabinet from Ikea such as

or splurge a little for:

r/StandingDesk on Reddit: Under Desk Shelf for Laptop
January 21, 2022 -

Just received my Uplift Desk and I have everything assembled. I am waiting on a few cables that I needed different lengths for, but one thing I cannot figure out is a good place to set up my USB-C dock for my laptop.

I use two computers at my desk, my desktop for personal, and my laptop for work. An under desk shelf would be great, and I actually have the Uplift Shelf/drawer on order; however, I am concerned it won’t be large enough to accommodate the laptop and the dock.

Has anyone found a solution to getting the dock and laptop off their desktop?

My current set up. I need the most help with section 2. I have a home business and want a bigger area to pack orders so I was going to A) get a standard white table B) put everything in section 3 in drawers under the table C) get one of those little printer stands and move the printer under the table as well. D) Move the books and things in the bins else where. Ideally would like to find a way to store some of that stuff nearby because it is business/computer related so don’t want it too far…

And then potentially move the Monsterra to the corner?

Any tips?
