r/staub on Reddit: [Costco] Staub 7-Quart Cast Iron Braise and Grill $174.99
December 15, 2023 -

It's supposed to be $199.99, but somehow a $25 discount got applied once added in the cart, and it did stay for check out.

I was looking for a 5.5 quart, but at this price, I bite the bullet for this. And be warned some do hate the grill pan style lid, as it is indeed harder to lift and has no knot for one to change. Many complained the grilled pan is hard to clean after grilling, but some argued it's not that bad. However, some simply argue a normal cast iron pan is better than any grilling pan coz the latter does give less browning. It is common to see user said they rarely use the lid as a grill pan.

Color said blue or red, but should be sapphire or grenadine.

In term of the price, I was told not long ago that VI 5.5 quart can go to as low as $130, 7 quart $150 (not sure if those prices are for majolique colors or not.) And this $199.99 normal discounted price is pretty common from Costco for this set.

so take all these into account to see if you want to wait for VI 7 or 5.5 quart with a normal lid.

While this price is great, some people in the past cautioned these are actually VI products and returned theirs after inspection. Fellow redditor pointed out it could be ppl not being familiar with hand-made product. But, at least Costco have good return policy. Ppl also said Costco would only allow return not exchange if one did have a defective item but just want to exchange for a normal one.

The Costco items are first quality items. Some people don't understand what a hand finished product is going to look like. Sometimes things miss inspection. Costco has a notoriously generous return policy and world class customer service, and they don't ever sell second quality items. I'm not even sure why you would suggest a retailer is selling second quality items without having any personal experience otherwise. You are correct, the colors offered in the US marketplace are sapphire / grand blue / dark blue and grenadine. Of course, these are standard sized cocottes and if you'd like to put a standard lid on one of these you will have a separate grill pan and a full cocotte (that's what I did). I'm not crazy about having the top of the highly glossy lid as the surface that makes contact with a cooktop. Obviously, it's nearly impossible to avoid scratches over time. I bought both the sapphire and grenadine from Costco a couple years ago. In January of 2022 the regular selling price on costco.com was $249, with a $50 discount when I purchased them. So, they were considered a pretty good deal at $199 almost 2 years ago. Sounds like you got a steal for $174. Please be happy with your first quality item at a fabulous price! PS. I just created a sample order and it appears that both a $50 discount and an additional $30 discount or applied to each of these in my cart. The price for me is $170, and the discounts do show on the receipt. So you got a $50 coupon and a $25 coupon?

November 14, 2021 - I don’t think I’ll ever use the grill pan feature and I don’t love that it doesn’t have the pretty knob on top, but it’s such a great deal compared to other 7qt staubs that I’m happy with it! I did get some food residue stains after the first use but some vinegar and water got them out immediately and it looks good as new. Fairly new to cast iron, picked all these up for $20.
