How can I unlock a T-Mobile iPhone 8 Plus that I own outright?
TMobile can't unlock a phone that is not in use with their Network. If the phone is owed outright, meaning no installment payments, you need 40 days of continuous service on a postpaid account to request an unlock. If you connect it to TMobile prepaid you will need to pay for at least 3 months of service before requesting an unlock.
You can escalate it all you want, but unfortunately of they don't see the phone currently in service on your account, they can't see it's unlock eligiblity, and therefore cannot process an unlock.

I own an iPhone 8 Plus from T-Mobile which I bought from someone a while back. I am looking to use this phone with other carriers however it is not unlocked. I currently use Simple Mobile as it is a T-Mobile MVNO, however, I would like to use the phone with other carriers should I need to and I need to unlock the phone for that.
I have called T-Mobile for help unlocking the phone and they stated the person that initially bought the phone needs to call in to unlock the phone as it is tied to their account.
How does this make sense? I have no way of contacting that person anymore and the phone is clean and paid off and it is now mine. I should have the ability to unlock it and T-Mobile should honor the request as it is no longer their phone on their network or tied to any of their accounts.
What are my options? Is there any way around this to convince T-Mobile to unlock the phone?
Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, if you don’t have a T-Mobile account yourself it isn’t possible. This is why you never buy carrier locked phones secondhand.
