Not long ago, I found out about TCM-Security through a friend. So, I would like to know from you guys in the cybersecurity field (both students and workers) if their certs are industry recognized in terms of job acquisition or for leveling up for better job positions?

It’s good training but you won’t see their certs listed in job posting requirements.

I'm one of the tech leads on a large pentest team. When the TL's got together last time to discuss which certs we recommended for the team, it was unanimous that we all favored HackTheBox CPTS as a first cert, and OSCP for those with at least two to three years of pentesting experience (as a consultant) behind them. I would go so far as to say that in my opinion, CPTS is better than OSCP but OSCP has more industry recognition and our customers are looking for it when they shop around for a new pentest provider. The following is how I rank the offensive security certs: In order of job acquisition: OSCP -> CPTS -> PNPT In order of quality: CPTS -> OSCP -> PNPT Those are all certs for pentesters. If you're interested in blue team role certs and training, HackTheBox Academy is really good. These are just my opinions and I do not endorse any of them.

Wanted to share this so others in the cybersecurity community don’t get stuck like I did.

I had an active TCM Security All-Access Pass. When I tried to cancel, their system simply did not work, for months.

They migrated platforms and left older subscribers stuck in the old system. My account showed no active subscription, yet they kept charging me. Support repeatedly gave me the same instructions, even after I sent multiple screenshots proving nothing worked. They also refused to cancel it manually on their end.

Today a cancellation link finally appeared, but only after months of emails and frustration. Now I’m still trying to get a refund for the months where I was paying for something I could not cancel or access properly.

Key Points • Broken subscription system in the legacy platform • No visible cancellation option despite following all instructions • Continued billing while claiming there was no active subscription • Support unwilling to cancel from backend • Still fighting for a fair refund

I’m all for supporting cybersecurity education providers, but this was one of the most stressful and unfair subscription experiences I’ve encountered in this field.

Sharing so others are aware before signing up for any recurring billing with TCM Security.

You should have disputed the charges with your credit card after the first attempt to cancel failed.

IMO call them out on LinkedIN, Heath left the company but I would imagine he still has contacts there.

I’ve searched through what I can find on the views of what to and not to “invest” in as far as osint certs and my ultimate goal is to get good at open and all source.

Would TCM be a solid foundation with it being one of the cheaper options being at $400 currently and being eligible for the 20% off?

I’ve also taken the TCM OSINT course (Just a few months ago) and contrary to other reviews I was pretty disappointed. Every video seemed to be the instructor just one take recording his screen and talking about a free service whilst repeating “the tools always change the methodology is most important!” There were a few mistakes throughout which were just left in and I remember during a coding video they ‘kick off a script to come back to later’ and it’s then completely forgotten about. Ultimately the course is pretty cheap so maybe my standards are too high but for me it came across as just a collection of already well known tools with a price tag on top. Googling “OSINT cheat sheet” and messing with the tools you find will teach you just as much. Maybe I didn’t read the synopsis well enough but paying money to be told about HaveIBeenPwned and Google Lens stung a bit for me

I actually sat the cert this weekend and passed. I am not a certified stalker. I have the PJPT from TCM also. I think their training is decent, and the OSINT training is as good as their other stuff. I wrote a review with some details, link below. I cannot say how useful it will be for employment etc, however TCM's PNPT (their main ethical hacking cert) is appearing on more and more job descriptions. If you are looking to follow OSINT, I think having this under your belt might help you stand out and have something to talk about in interviews, if you have no other experience. I got the course/cert discounted on Black Friday (I think that's their biggest discount), I wouldn't pay $400 of my own money because I am a cheapskate. The exam is 72 hours, and I was stressed for 95% of the time. Recommended by a friend, the site offers good quality courses that are not very expensive like the rest and often run huge discounts in which courses can be bought for as low as $5. They are probably gonna give similar discounts during Christmas. So, has anyone ever tried their course, are they worth it and helpful?

I usually point my students toward those courses. They're very high quality and a great price aimed at helping those without much income break into the field. Go for it!

I don't know too much about them, but from my experience working in the medical sector, I have seen only two recognized industry certifications at my job: Cisco (CCNA or CCNP), and CompTIA. From a quick Google search, TCM-Security does have hands on training. However, in my honest opinion for training, if it is viable, apply to community college and take courses. This was the route I did to get my A+, Cisco CCNA certifications. What I liked about taking classes was the class told you what book to get and provided the materials needed for hands on training. At the time the courses were 4 units and the cost per unit was $44 or $176, not including the book. I hope I was able to help. I forgot to mention they will offer you a discount voucher for the exam. I remember for Cisco, without the discount or was $300 and with the discount voucher from the school it was $150 or 50% off. Edit: Spelling

Just for being great at your job it's probably the best material to learn from for a practical perspective but HR is not looking for TCM certs. I would just study for the courses and do projects so you have something to talk about that will set you apart but in most cases TCM will not be the deciding factor or let alone the initial factor that will land you a job -- which is the ultimate goal.

None of these courses are going to teach you how to find a bug, it is all about the common types of bugs and how these can be applied on a lab environment. You can get the info for free from OWASP, Portswigger, YouTube....

the tcm sec course is too mid and not worthy to be taken, for a bug to be found u'll have to have in depth study of each vulnerability!! Portswigger is a excellent resource, they have free labs too and everythin!!

I recently read news of Heath Adams leaving his company to search for “greener” pastures. While I appreciate everything that he’s done for the cybersecurity education, is it just me that thinks that this screams “bait & switch”? I mean, “he” was the brand behind the company and now that he’s leaving, to me, it just looks like any other cybersecurity education provider. I don’t see any difference. Yes, I know that he wasn’t making any content after a certain time but yet. What are the opinions of other folks here?

No opinion, he made his money and then sold it for more money. It’s all a business.

He got his lambo and his bag and left. Can't blame the guy for selling, I probably would too - we're all in it for money, one way or another. There's only so much you can care about people refusing and actively hurting themselves by ignoring the basics of IT and trying to jump straight into hacking. If someone offered me 10 mil for my company, I'd probably take it, invest it, and live off dividends and pursue my hobbies and maybe go back to work if I get bored.

Instead of posting this over an over in different subs you should learn how to crosspost. Also, if you would have done a simple reddit search you would find a lot of posts about people recommending TCM and probably found more subs. Don't be lazy, search before you post.

I've used a couple of their paid courses, along with their free content on YouTube, and I think it's great. I've learned a ton. I'd definitely recommend TCM.

THM (Try Hack Me) for free content and* exposure. * TCM for lifetime updates. * HTB (Hack The Box) if you're looking for more structured content. * Going in the top to bottom order would be ideal. But everyone has their preferences. You could easily go with exploring each tool in a KL VM and just review the man pages as you attempt to break another hosted VM in your own network. (Edit: typo - changed an to and* as I saw OP wanted clarification. Exposure in this context, means "seeing/learning" from the material of the service. Example: "Exposure" to more ice cream flavors, means you're tasting more. Yummy.

TCM Security has a 7-day free trial available for their all-access membership. I used this as an opportunity to look at the PEH course material which is used in the PNPT. I will be looking at the Privilege escalation courses after to bolster my enumeration checklist.

I gotta say this doesn't look like a certification you want to skip. The videos are WAY better than offsec's and he uses plenty of real-world examples and case studies. I wouldn't be surprised to see this cert become the gold standard soon.

Obviously OSCP is still the HR-buster, but the PNPT course material seems like it will nicely fill in knowledge gaps caused due to the CTF-like nature of the OSCP. These two certs in tandem seem like a dangerous combo.

This is a great topic and I really think it needs to be discussed throughout the security community more. Several people have mentioned the keys here are the HR gatekeeping and, unfortunately, the reputation that OSCP has as the gold standard for PenTesting. My opinion(for whatever that's worth) is that the educational value you can get from HTB and TCM are OUTSTANDING. The training that can carry on into your professional role and day to day job is way more important than some (very expensive) initials that no one cares about after someone in HR decides you can talk to an actual hiring manager. Anyways, HackThePlanet!

I came across the TCM Security pen test course in r/PenTest and was wondering if it's still good. I googled it and found a post saying that it's outdated. Does anyone know if that's true? Should I get it or should I stick with Udemy courses? I have one on Udemy but it doesn't go as deep as I want and some attacks are outdated(like eternal blue). If it's not something I should invest in, what's a good, inexpensive alternative?

TCM Academy is pretty good. Outdated isn't a bad thing because you're still learning and understanding how attacks are done. If you don't want to pay for it, Heath has a 10 video play list covering his courses . You won't get the CPEs for it, but still a lot of info to learn. If you're new to it all, I highly recommend it. If you're someone who has been in the weeds for a long time and already done with things like the OSCP or higher, its probably not needed.

TCM Academy constantly updates their course materials. I have completed several of their courses and go back every few months to watch the updates. Their practical ethical hacking course is extensive and covers many topics from basic networking, osint, basic python, web app attacks, active directory, privilege escalation to report writing in enough details to give a complete newbie a starting point for further learning. Then you can go after some of the more advanced classes that go much deeper on each of these topics.

I bought a subscription on sale for 6 months to realize I don’t like video format learning. Apart from that, their content is good (not exceptional), they have labs you can setup from localhost. There is a lot of free learning material out there. Start with Portswigger academy and save yourself some money. Check the free courses on bug bounty portals, check infosec writeups. At this point, start some programs and if you still feel the need for info, you’ll be in deep enough to know where to find them ;) GL&HF Edit: Considering you mentioned Practical Ethical Hacking. A portion of their course can be viewed on youtube. Also, the fundamental courses are available for free on their site. This should give you a good feeling for their style of teaching.

After working for two months, I've accumulated enough money to buy an annual subscription of THM however I'm in dilemma whether I should buy THM subscription or TCM. Need your kind help. I'm a newbie though.

THM Free content is enough in the beginning imo

You can’t go wrong with a combination of both. TCM has released a major portion of its PEH course (and others) on YT for free so you can take it for a test drive. Also, there are free rooms or contents in THM so you can still learn without spending much. TCM runs quite a number of discounts all year round so if you can spend your time learning the free stuff until then, you can maximize your money. Also, THM offers a discount for its annual subscription during the Advent of Cyber event.
