We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with move Microsoft Teams to "desktop" on Windows 10. I deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.
Could you please let me know if you have tried to Drag and Drop from Start Menu:
- Open the Start menu by clicking the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- Find Microsoft Teams by scroll down until you find the Teams app in the list of applications. Please do not search for it you need manually scroll down for this to work.
- Click and hold the Microsoft Teams icon.
- Drag the icon to your desktop and release it. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.

Greetings. Thank you for posting the thread to our community.
I understand your concern, it seems you’ve encountered issue when installing Teams on your device. For the situation you’ve encountered, I do understand the inconvenience caused and feel very sorry about it.
Based on your first query about the install package, as far as I know, this is an update by Microsoft which combine the Teams for personal and the Teams for work/school download link into this new one:’MSTeamsSetup.exe’. In that case, it is due to design and technically it should be workable to install Teams through this link. Apparently, it is abnormal that you cannot install Teams through this install package.
Due to this situation, to have a better understanding and identify the root cause of your issue, May I confirm the following information with you?
- May I confirm whether you are trying to install Teams on a computer that never installed Teams before or re-install Teams on a computer?
- May I confirm whether you can access to this link: Microsoft Teams - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store and install Teams or not? If you cannot install it, Please provide me a screenshot of your test result.
