How long does a Tempur-Pedic mattress last?
Where can I buy a Tempur-Pedic mattress?
When is the best time to buy a Tempur-Pedic mattress?
Hi Y’all
Here’s an in depth, 90-day sleep review of my Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt 12” (Medium, NON HYBRID) mattress.
Feel free to ask me any specific questions which are not addressed in my review.
Spoiler alert/TLDR: It fuc*ing rocks. Stats: Male / Side sleeper. 170 pounds. Standard flat wood base. Age: 56 5’ 9” tall. Warm to Hot Sleeper. Twin XL.
Let me preface this review by saying I’ve slept on a Tempur-Pedic mattress for the last 12+ years of my life.
My previous mattress was a Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody (medium). It was absolutely perfect up to about 10 years but over the last couple years I started to notice weird aches developing. The old mattress was essentially “cratering” to where I was being funneled into one center position and was not getting full body, adjusted support any longer. I consider this previous mattress to be the best mattress I have ever owned in my life.
I was able to secure a like-new “floor model” Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt 12” at a massive discount from Bed Pros Mattresses (I suggest asking for a floor model or a ’90 day return’ from the warehouse, a method I also used with my first Tempur-Pedic) I saved 900.00 off the retail by doing this, and paid 1800.00 out the door, and I got a free mattress cover and pillow thrown in.
I shopped at both Mattress Firm and Bed Pros to make them fight for my business ‘roman gladiator style’.
I considered a Hybrid (with box springs in the bottom under the foam), but since I already had a decade plus of blissful sleep on a straight memory foam mattress I decided against it. The non-Hybrid was also cheaper, and I am if nothing else, a bargain hunter. Also, if I wanted springs, I’d get some sort of pillow top. The bed is, in a word, pure heaven.
Within one week all of my weird aches and pains were gone and I was back to sleeping like a god damn angel on a cloud. Hell, the very logo for Tempur-Pedic depicts a person sleeping on their side with spine aligned! This is not just meaningless imagery, this is what they do. If ever a bed was made for side sleepers, this is it.
Let me also mention that I’m a single gentleman. I’m also a raging Asexual. I’m not having sex on this thing, but I have had a goodly bit of sex on my last mattress and it can indeed be cumbersome in certain positions. As I have not had sex in ages, going on 7-8+ years, so I can’t really give any worthwhile commentary on the situation.
Folks, lets just get it on the table…Tempur (and foam in general) beds are warm to sleep on. They can be quite hot for some.
I am also a warm sleeper. I solve this problem by keeping my apartment VERY cold (64 degrees ish) and using a fan. I’ve always needed some air flow to sleep well and the noise is also a plus. It balances out quite nicely for me, and the result is a perfect bed. My last TP bed seemed to get warmer in years 8-10 as the foam got more and more compressed so I added a cooling topper and it did the trick nicely. This new bed comes with a washable cooling sheath, and it’s effective.
They also offer the LUXE ADAPT series for the Elon Musks of the mattress shopping world, which offer ‘even more’ cooling. If I was extremely wealthy, I would get that model for sure, but since I am a middle class wage slave, I am looking for the best value for my dollar. (Best support, best coolness, best longevity)
I believe the ProAdapt series *IS* Tempur-Pedic’s best option for the consumer, in price and quality. If you look at the reviews – it is by far the most purchased version. The reviews are very consistent. I have noticed no decay in mattress quality in 90 days..it’s the same as when I brought it home. I know some have said that since Sealy bought them, there have been longevity issues (I will provide my next review around the 2 year mark)
I have set a reminder in my Outlook for this purpose. Yes folks, this is what a vibrant 56-year-old asexual man finds interesting. It’s fine.
If I am able to get 5+ years out of this mattress, I will consider it a fine value. Sleep is something I treasure over almost anything else and lends so much to general well-being. This mattress is seriously HEAVENLY. Absolute perfect support and comfort. No notes. 5/5 stars.
But, most importantly, don’t forget the pillow. This is the crucial point that causes many folks to screw up the sleep equation. I use a simple 33 dollar shredded memory foam pillow from amazon. You can adjust the foam level to customize it (this is 100% mandatory in my opinion) One’s head should be perfectly level while sleeping on your side. This is CRITICAL! No standard pillow will be perfect for all sleepers. It needs to be adjustable. I also feel the shredded foam is much cooler than a solid foam pillow. I’ve tried way too many on the road to “the perfect pillow”…I am not hot-headed at all with this one.
The very nice pillow they gave me for free with my purchase I gave to my daughter.
I set a Outlook reminder to write this review since many of the reviews I read were only after a couple-few days, mission accomplished.
I will follow up at the 2 year mark.
Sincerely,
A well-rested side sleeping gentleman
I stopped by mattress store today and noticed that Tempur-Pedic adapt medium hybrid is on sale till end of this week. What i can't tell is if it really worth paying $3600 for a mattress. My current one is 10 year old traditional and it's time to replace. Should i be looking at something else that is cheaper and better or is Tempur-Pedic really the best of the best?
