the most despairing song written by the cure

(THIS IS BASED ON MEANING NOT SOUND IN RELATION WITH THE LYRICS)

(despair)

the complete loss or absence of hope.

  • trust meaning (my personal favorite and this is not bias)

this song, the small lyrics that robert smith arranged and picked the perfect words, the song literally defines trust in the most relational/relationship way possible. there is no song like this. period. and arguably the best sounding song of all time, including an extremely relatable, deep meaning that no other person could write.

i know im its not about sound but its true, this song, i have played over 1000s of times. it's sound is unreal, while having the most perfect harmonizes and cords that exist or could even be put into a song. and whenever it ends, i feel like something is always missing..

if the antagonist will ever accept or realize that this person really does love them. Despite, things that might have happened between them, overall their heart was always in the right place and that it's all they ever wanted was to love and be with them. They realize that the other person has been burned so many times by other relationships but they really are different and don't want to hurt them. This person has exhausted all of their resources and doesn't know what else to do to prove their love to them.

  • bare meaning

you can think bare as the hardline description, or the truthful and outgoing version of trust. such as " And if you leave me now You leave all that we were Undone " or " Why won't you just believe? "

You don't necessarily want it to end (but you sometime feel like you do), but it's ending. And there's nothing you can do about it except wait for the antagonist's choice or for you to make your choice. You can choose to cling but it's not real. You can get held back by being attached to pleasant memories but memory isn't love. Some love fades. Some love lasts. Trying to grip it isn't going to save what's already gone. if you disagree about bare this on the list, listen to the song and actually read the lyrics. it is one of the most underrated cure songs, and one of the truest song ever made.

  • it can never be the same

this song is actually a mix of despair and greif, but decided to put it in for the hope that was lost from robert smith into this song due to current loss, and how lostless you can feel when it can never be the same.

someone that has been apart or contributed to your life is gone, you dont know what to do, or how to act, and you dont know why. you are in denial if there is going to be another one, and you never wanted it this way, but you cant change it. overall you miss them, but "it's not like you're gone''.

  • cold

i am extermly aware this is a depressive song. this is also about hope being lost. according to smith, "It's another song about another drug and it's grip"

the first time i heard this son i thought that it was about his lover dying.
"scarred your back was turned"

the doctor was talking to her about the bad news
"I was cold as i mouthed the words"

he could be saying "are you okay"

knowing the response would be bad

"await the next breath"

listing to her last breaths.
" a shallow grave"

Dreaming about her dying, and no-one caring about her.
"can no-one save you"

pretty much says it
"as cold as silence you never say a word"

that moment where her breathing stops and he's looking at her dead body. and realize what have i done, but you dont know what you have done, and that you feel hopeless of that it was all your fault..

this one of the few songs that exists, that explain it's self. another like this "Jupiter Crash"

  • seventeen seconds

" it's now or never... and you don't act. " when this song was written, every seventeen seconds someone killed themselfs and it takes 17 seconds for a drug to travel to the bloodstream and to the brain and how long it takes to pass out from a severed artery.. and that in the end, seventeen seconds can mean as much as the rest of your life. and how everything can be over over that one small decision.

im not going to give a mainline description for the song because it that pretty^ much explains in low detail and it can mean different to anyone who listens to this song.

  • pictures of you

well here it is, the ultimate break up song. and one of the most relatable songs made.

i will give many community based descs due to many relations to the song. a - ends the meaning from that person

"do you remember the first person you feel in love with? really, fell in love with? trusted with everything? do you remember the rush of hormones? the intensity? do you remember how it felt when it ended? the raw pain, the raw ache. you never hurt the same about anyone again. you'll never feel exactly the same about anyone else, again. there are new loves, different loves, but none that compare to your first love. the first cut is always the worst because you haven't learned how to cope and defend yourself from the pain yet." -

best meaning i have seen

"I've been looking so long at these pictures of you, That I almost believe that they're real." I love having pictures, but it is hard not to have anything to go with them. This is a song about regret and despair, not being able to find the right words, missing opportunities, asking too much. All he has left are his pictures of her. -

"regret"-

"despair"-

"the "picture" represents a beautiful memory that one, in desperation, holds on to forever. Robert Smith's words probably are lies, but only because he probably wants the listener to gather theyre own feelings. Ratzody's description about her husband dying was a real tearjerker and clearly defines how absolutely powerful the song is, and can so be applied to the feeling of loss and memory. "-

i will give my top 6 here

  1. bare

  2. pictures of you

  3. trust

  4. seventeen seconds

  5. it can never be the same

  6. cold

my personal top 5

  1. trust

  2. bare

  3. pictures of you

  4. it can never be the same

  5. cold

  6. seventeen seconds

if you disagree about bare this on the list, listen to the song and actually read the lyrics. it is one of the most underrated cure songs, and one of the truest song ever made.

The Cure (song) - Wikipedia
1 month ago - This is expanded upon in the chorus when Gaga belts "If I can't find the cure, I'll, I'll fix you with my love", thus positioning herself as someone who advocates for the troubling time in anyone's life, evident by the closing line "Promise I'll always be there, Promise I'll be the cure". Ally Hirschalg from Mic also found other explanations from the lyrics: a mother talking to her children and someone who had a recent break-up, the latter alluding to Gaga's break-up with fiancée Taylor Kinney the previous year.

The Cure’s 5 Best Songs and Their True Meanings
May 19, 2023 - There are a lot more Cure songs that we'd like to cover here. However, we'll limit ourselves to some honorable mentions: The Same Deep Water as You - This epically long song is about a love affair that appears to be hopelessly doomed. Fascination Street - This song is about Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Fascination Street is known for its amazing rumbling bass line. Let's Go to Bed - The blatantly obvious lyrics coupled with a cheesy synth riff make a spoof of pop songs, which all seem to basically be saying (ad nauseam): "Please go to bed with me."

The ultimate guide to the Cure’s greatest lyrics through every studio album
April 21, 2021 - The last station post in The Cure’s songbook provides us with a great opportunity to touch upon another element of Smith’s songwriting tropes – he has always had a firm grasp on the utterly bizarre. I have no idea what he means by this strange verse, but it is arresting all the same.

But digging a bit deeper in The Cure's history at that point, you realize this lyric is directly addressed at Simon, who he hadn't spoken to for over a year. Actually, the last line suggests he may be directing the song at other former band members as well, like Porl. Of course, they did come back in the end, and thank heavens they did. ... lost in pain. but unable or unwilling to let go. escape to the top by what ever means...

May 2, 1989 - The Cure’s career to that point had been defined by a defiance against people’s expectations for them. Formed as a punk band, their label pushed them toward pop for their first album. Smith alienated half his bandmates by writing more somber music following a spell playing for Siouxsie And The Banshees.

This might explain Smith's rather evasive answer to the inspiration for the song: "about a girl..." (Curenews, 1989). The lyrics are even more cryptic, though perhaps most revealing is the opening line "hello image," which, given what we know about the inspiration of the song, seems to equate Mary with the reflection of Smith himself.
