11 Free Things To Do In San Francisco - Meet Me Off Grid
January 20, 2025 - San Francisco is known as one of the most expensive cities in the United States so here are some things in San Fran you can do that are FREE! A fun little stop near the Golden Gate Bridge. Lover’s Lane is located in the Presidio of San Francisco Park. There is much more you can explore in this park: trails and nature, fun events, historic sites, and amazing Golden Gate Bridge views. I have only drove across the Golden Gate Bridge and honestly driving across it didn’t do much for me but I’ve been told from friends that walking or biking across it is definitely worth it.
Rent a bike, look at the Sausalito ferry schedule, ride bike across Golden gate bridge into Sausalito, have lunch and take the ferry back! Epic views! Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

Top Things to Do in San Francisco for First Timers (with hidden gems)
August 8, 2024 - Honestly, can’t even be mad – I feel like if the fog doesn’t block your view of the bridge you didn’t really visit SF. A little further south, there are incredible trails and hiking all over. Land’s End is a great spot for rugged coastline views with the Sutro Baths being an interesting landmark to check out. The Sutro Baths are ruins of an old bath house from the 19th century. One of the things I loved most about visiting San Francisco was all the different neighborhoods throughout the city.

What to see around San Francisco and surrounding area?
I personally picked Sonoma over Napa. Rent a car and drive up the coast, stop at Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes for cheese. We stayed in Guerneville, which was so cute. Plus, there are other things to do like hiking, water sports on the Russian River, seeing more of the coast, etc. Then spend a day driving around to vineyards. The scenery is just beautiful. Underrated things to do in SF
Non-touristy would be explore neighborhoods that are more locals. That would be Cole valley, Noe valley, inner sunset, inner Richmond, and Valencia street in the mission. For hikes you can hike a few places in the city: twin peaks viewpoint is one of the highest. Touristy things would be going to pier 39 and fisherman’s wharf then over to crissy field and presidio tunnel tops with a stop by the palace of fine arts. More on reddit.com

What belongs on my SF bucket list?
The essential must do is to walk everywhere. Start in the Richmond for coffee, lunch in Hayes Valley, dinner in Potrero, drinks in the Mission. I dunno, if you haven’t explored as many neighborhoods as you can by foot, you oughta. It’s tablestakes. More on reddit.com

July 10, 2025 - The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco is a magical place that feels like stepping into a storybook. Built in 1915, it looks like an ancient Roman or Greek ruin with grand columns, a huge dome and a peaceful lagoon often full of swans and ducks. It’s a nice spot to take photos, have a picnic or just walk around enjoying the beauty of the architecture. One of the coolest things about visiting the Palace of Fine Arts is how peaceful it feels, even though it’s right in the middle of a bustling city.

February 12, 2025 -

I'm from Europe and I have never been in the USA before. I'll be in SF for 5 days at the end of may as a friend is doing the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon, he will be focused on the competition so I'll have to do things alone for the 3 days before the competition, was wondering which are the best recommendations of things to do in and around SF like visiting Alcatraz.

I can do one overnighter somewhere else but we have an hotel booked for all the stay in SF so I don't want to lose more than a night. I don't have a car but I don't mind doing a 5h+ bus/train trip if the views are worth it (I enjoy being in a car with views I don't know).

I'm not a city person, I have a preference for activities in the nature or activities where I can meet people as a foreigner. My goal is to get a glance of California with the least amount of time so if I really like something I can come back and directly go there.

November 12, 2025 - One other thing you might notice is that you won’t find Fisherman’s Wharf below. We’ve been to Fisherman’s Wharf exactly one time during our stint in San Francisco, and that was only to go to In-N-Out Burger, which has a location there. The sea lions are cool, but other than that, we don’t see a whole lot of reasons to go to the most touristy part of the city, especially with such limited time in SF.
