I do not have an iPhone, but I've had an Apple account for years with iTunes for my Apple TV (and from when I used my iPod Touch for music). I'm trying to recover my password and got the message that my email is not valid, but I pay the monthly insurance on my son's iPhone that I bought through Apple and I get a receipt emailed from them to THAT old email address every month...how is this possible and how can I get signed back into my account? As we all know if I create a new ID, I'll lose anything I purchased. Thanks in advance. 🙏

If you're referring to AppleCare+ & you purchased AC+ after purchasing the iPhone (not at the same time), that coverage likely isn't linked to your Apple ID.
