November 9, 2022 - RDR2 is rife with detail, overstuffed with little touches: animal corpses persist and decay, the protagonist Arthur has commentary for nearly every location and character, and random world events make the world feel lived in, be it sucking on a man's snakebite wound or getting ambushed by hillbillies. It's all layered into an excellent story that'll take you as long as the complete Deadwood series to get through, and that's if you're rushing. And on top of it all, Red Dead Online brings a Day Z adjacent quality to the open world, invoking everything from serious roleplay to ridiculous, surreal shenanigans.

Definitely Cyberpunk 2077. Fantastic world, fantastic story. If you have a strong enough PC, you can enable path tracing and make it very possibly the best looking open world game to date (still looks great without path tracing too) Have to bring up Elden Ring as well. Hands down the best open world game I've ever played. As for whether it's a "chill experience".... that'll definitely vary from person to person haha. Personally, I find myself getting into a flow with the FromSoftware games which can be quite satisfying and relaxing. If it's your first Souls game, it may be stressful at first until you learn it. But also, of you want to take a game slowly, this may be a great candidate because slowly is the best way to learn a game like this. But really it's the gorgeous world and incredible environmental storytelling that pulls me into that game. The story can be like a puzzle, but I personally find that really engaging. There was no story I thought about more last year than Elden Ring's. When I wasn't playing the game, I was watching lore videos lol. Such a fantastic experience, and as I said, the best open world I've ever played.

Idk how I haven’t seen either of these yet: ghost of Tsushima and horizon series. Both 10/10 with awesome combat, story, graphics, crafting, map, everything.

Looking for an open world game! I primarily play RPGs and I really want to get immersed in something new. I’ve seen Elden Ring recommended a bunch but before I started that I wanted to see if anyone had some other recs.
Some games I’ve really enjoyed are AC Odyssey & Valhalla, the Horizon series, Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda: TOTK, Arkham Knight, and Star Wars Outlaws.
