Just long press on the App Store icon and choose “update”. Then pull down to refresh. With Auto updates turned on in settings it still can take a while for an app to update. Answer from jw154j on reddit.com

r/iphone on Reddit: Is there a way to get my apps to update automatically?
April 15, 2024 -
Fairly new to iPhone… I’ve realized over the past few months that my apps repeatedly feel to auto update. Just realized a handful were out of date and I have to manually search for them and then click the update button.
Is there a way to get them to auto update?

Automatic App Updates option on my App St… - Apple Community
A few hours later, the same app is in the list again with the EXACT SAME update (no, it is not a new update, it is the same). This happens constantly. A "community specialist", whose helpfulness can only be topped by an A.I. customer support call, suggested in the thread linked above to update the iPhone to the latest update and to set the app updates to automatic.

Topic: Button Missing for Automatic Apps Updates @ AskWoody
Apple has turned Automatic Updates on by default in macOS 18.4 and I think in iOS 18.4. If you click on the “i” in the circle, the previous settings are there. I have turned OFF the auto download/install. I don’t want my bandwidth taken up by a download/install when I’m busy on my Macs. And I certainly don’t want it on my iPhone/iPad when I’m on Cellular and not plugged in.
