UPS Axes 48,000 Jobs in Brutal Restructuring — Shares Soar as Workers Pay the Price
Shares soar while, so share holders get their value and executives get their big bonus for achieving value. What a world we live in. Last year at my job executives got these bonuses for shareholder value while money was tight and people had to get laid off because the bonuses were already budgeted for. Then they were freaking out because the bonuses got published mid lay offs. The bonuses were large enough to carry most of the people laid off at that round for an entire year. I say most because some management was cut and i believe their salaries were really high, unnecessarily high so maybe couldn’t sustain those. Arguably the money could have kept the company running for much longer this year when it shut down. Nope they had to milk the company for all they could. More on reddit.com

The company disclosed the workforce reductions for 2025 in an earnings statement to investors and analysts.
UPS said it is well positioned to navigate the coming holiday shipping season, and restructuring efforts have resulted in cost savings of about $2.2 billion so far this year.
Though third-quarter profit and revenue fell, results were better than expected. Shares rallied more than 12% in premarket trading.

You know it is a bad sign when these companies like Amazon and UPS, who rely heavily on retail sales and shipping are laying off employees the month BEFORE the holiday shopping season starts. The American economy is screwed, Trump and his cronies are destroying everything.

Pretty sure these were from the Amazon contract that UPS lost, so they closed down a bunch of operations across the country where they had no reason to continue them. FedEx replaced UPS, so the expectation is that a lot of those positions are moved laterally.
