Im very far in the mountains, and our only UPS drop off was an auto part store that permanently closed its UPS pickups. I went to the UPS website and the closest UPS access point to me is almost 3.5 hours away.
I checked the UPS website and seen they offered at home one time pickup but when i got to the end it was going to be 30$ for the pickup. But the shipping label was for a free return.
There was no option to select for free prepaid shipping label. What would be my best course of action? or am i taking an almost 8 hour round trip.

Order something cheap that ships ups and just hand the return to the driver

I think the $30 one time pickup is gonna be worth it far more than driving 8 hours round trip. Otherwise, if you know what time the driver is usually in your area, you could look for their package car and just hand it off to them for free. If you're expecting a delivery, could also leave it on your step with a note that says "ups please take package".

It's not an Amazon return. I got a pdf file from the site I'm returning to but I also just realized UPS emailed me a barcode, not a QR code. It says "Your returns label is available to print or scan" then under it has the tracking number. Then in small print under it says "Print your label at home, or bring this barcode to a UPS location we'll print it for you." Then under that is a yellow button link "Get your shipping label" then under that is another small link "Find a location to scan your barcode." Then under that is the barcode.
I googled and it says it's free for QR or barcode. Is this true for all the UPS stores? And I want to know why it's free for that but without it, it's supposedly not free? Is there a reason?

Yes, if the barcode you have leads to a printable shipping label when we scan it, it's free. Printing the PDF for you isn't free, because printing costs money.

QR codes will generate the label for us and we're able to print them off on a thermal printer. If you need a shipping label printed off(pdf), that means we need to use our big boy printer which uses toner and paper, which we pay for and in turn charge for using them. Just like any store, we charge for our products and services.

I am looking for a solution for providing shipping labels/materials/instructions for our employees who need to return company equipment. We have been having them pay out of pocket and reimbursing, but we want a solution where they don't have to spend money and we don't have to reimburse.
I was hoping there was something we could set up in our account, so that we prepurchase return labels and provide them to the employees, then they just take that and the equipment to UPS, and UPS will pack and ship accordingly. But going all around the UPS site, I can't find anything that resembles this.
How are other businesses doing this? I know at the last job I had, when I left they were able to send me a box with everything I needed inside including the label. Was this facilitated by UPS, or just something they likely did themselves on site?
Any input is very appreciated, the UPS website is made for dogs. Thank you!

It's definitely a thing, it's called a return service. They are pre-made labels and UPS only charges you when you use them. Do you have an account rep you could talk to?
