In ear headphones/earbuds
Durable - would love to get a minimum of 3 years of moderate use out of them.
Microphone
(Flexible, but ideally) $45 or less
They don't have to be the most incredible audio quality ever created, I'm just tired of having to constantly replace my headphones.
I primarily use my headphones for videos or music while in public, or for work meetings. I'd use them probably 3-4 times a week. I've mostly tried cheap options off Amazon, hence them breaking constantly.

I use Shure se215 with apple dac and upgraded cable (with mic as the standard one doesn't have one). But total cost is about $175 (my cheapest headphone setup). BIFL and cheap don't go together.

It should work, if everyone followed the spec. Unfortunately, some people don't follow the spec, and produce USB-C headphones which do not work with all devices. Basically, a USB-C headphone is supposed to have an integrated DAC. If it does, it'll work on all USB devices. However, there's also an optional USB-C mode which lets you use the port to output analog audio. This is supposed to only be used by 3.5mm adapters, but that hasn't stopped some people from trying to use this for headphones. Needless to say, those out-of-spec headphones will not work with devices not supporting that optional mode. More on reddit.com
