Hire a professional tile installer to install your shower. Tile is a large investment and needs to be done correctly the first time. Lots of people "do tile" but like all finish work it is an art form and you get what you pay for. Showers have the highest liability of all tile installtions. Make sure they use installation materials that have a lifetime warranty like Schluter or Laticrete products for example. Go online and look at/save pictures of showers and see what you like in a tile shower. Large format tile or small format tile Centered drain or linear Curbless or with a curb Shower head locations Bench Recessed shampoo niche Accent bands There's a lot of options to choose from out there and I always tell my clients to get what you want. It's a large enough investment that if you need to save up a few more years to achieve your dream shower it's worth it! So, you're worried it might be too busy/overwhelming- yet you plan on adding another element in the space by adding another color/pattern/texture wall of a blue herringbone... It is exactly as busy as it sounds. Design is subjective. We internet strangers have no sense of the space, nor how it fits in with the house.
