The Information bubble right on your screenshot under the product name tells you exactly why they denied it. It says “price when purchased online”. The website/app has tons of lower priced items to push online and in store pickup orders/sales. If you want it for that price you need to buy it online. In regard to your second screenshot if you go to actual pricing policy which is linked at the bottom of that paragraph, it states at the end “The store manager on duty has the final decision on any price match request.” Which based on information you gave they refused and told you to purchase it online for pickup because again that’s what the lower online prices are for, to drive online pickup orders. no it's not, because they allow 3rd party vendors and do not support the transaction after the sale. They are literally just hosting the sales and not backing it. Alright… hopefully not a long one but genuinely need to understand how this is possible, or why things are the way they are. I live in Canada for reference.
I noticed the Apple Watch series 9 on sale for $498.98 CAD on their website (photo attached). It says in stock and ready to pick up at this particular store, so instead of ordering online I go to my local Walmart.
I go to the electronics section, and ask for help. They say that it’s actually more expensive in store ($589 CAD), so I show them the price online, and also show them the disclaimer (photo attached) that says they will price match the item if there’s a difference from online to physical store.
The store clerk has to call their manager. At this point I’m thinking, “I’m sure this will be no problem, it’s not like I’m asking them to price match another store, it’s LITERALLY THEIR price online.”
She comes back and says it’s not possible. They don’t price match on items that high in price. The only way I could get that price would be to buy online and then pickup hours from that time, or the next day…. From that same store.
At this point the store clerk has the product in her hand, I have my wallet out ready for purchase, and somehow they’re making NOT buy the item right then and there. Instead they want me to buy online and wait to pick it up potentially a full 24 hours later.
I ended up going with Amazon instead of them because I enjoy their customer service more and I know they’re reliable. I also don’t have to make another trip to pick it up and it will get there tomorrow anyway.
How on earth does this make any sense? Money in hand, product in front of me, but some technical BS with storefronts and management prevented me from giving them money right then and there. I’m not even mad, just extremely confused and dumbfounded how stupid the scenario was.
Any other experiences with stuff like this from anyone else?

The main thing of note that matters here is if the one you clicked on is sold and shipped by Walmart. The item description makes me think it’s not because I almost never see things like “smarter. brighter. Mightier.” In a description. This also doesn’t tell you what size or color the item is and so while it may be on Walmarts website it could potentially be sold by a third party provider. The way to tell for certain is to scroll down just a bit by where it asks how you want your items and it should tell you who it’s sold and shipped by
