My cynical take is that they do this to make it harder to return items. In the past few months I failed to return some items because I couldn't find the items through a search and thought it must have been on a paper receipt that I lost. What did you expect exactly? Obviously your purchases are stored in a database alongside your payment method/credit card number, how else would they be able to properly process refunds? Compiling a list of items purchased by a given credit card number is then trivial. Don’t use a credit card anywhere if you’re that paranoid. Here's something I see quite frequently in Photo that may or may not tie into your case. It falls under the category of inept software. :) Many of our customers order their prints online to be picked up later in the store. In the process they obviously give Walmart their name, credit card and so on. What happens many times with repeat customers is that when they show up we can't find anything under the last name they give us. Eventually it turns out that regardless of what name they are currently using and GIVE TO WALMART in the order Walmart continues sending the order to us with the former name. Go figure. It may be a marriage, a divorce, whatever. And it's always with women since they are typically those whose last name may change over the course of their lives. Why can't Walmart fix this? I called it inept software but it's really more of a case pointing towards a company that refuses to either fix software problems or else refusing to pay for quality employees.
