r/buildapc on Reddit: Do liquid coolers require maintenance?
February 14, 2022 -
The guy in my PC store said that liquid coolers require maintenance and are therefore more dangerous than air coolers. I planned to just stick with air coolers but now I'm looking at the i9 12900K which gets super hot apparently and I'm wondering if a liquid cooler might be better.
What sort of maintenance do liquid coolers need and what are the risks? Thank you!

You will only need to keep the radiator and fans clean, as you would with any other component in your case. Just regularly clean the dust our of your case as you normally would.

I always do preventative maintenance on my loops, making sure no problems arise. Depending on the visible condition of the fluid itself in the loop, I like to clean it out at least once a year.. but this can change, just depends on the condition of the fluid itself. But as soon as I see anything out of the ordinary, I usually will begin cleaning the loop asap. Also, I have distilled water/biocide in one loop, and EK Cryofuel in another, right now anywho..
