Oh dear. Honey, I say this with absolute love;
If he will always take his mommy's word over yours DO NOT MARRY HIM!!!!
You will always come second, you will be on the defence all the time, you will grow to resent this manchild and eventually you will look down on him in disgust and possibly hate the jerk.
There is no amount of money spent on a wedding, even if you can't recoup it, that is worth the misery that will come from a relationship like this.
Postpone and go to couples counseling. Taking a step back will allow you to see the whole picture and make a decision with your brain and not your heart. Don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy.

I am not somebody who is easily stressed out. However, I have reached my limit with the amount of BS I can endure from my future in-laws, the sordid details are for another time but it’s essentially related to the lack of agency I’ve had in this process. As such, I have developed kind of a mental block on wedding-related stuff, even the stuff that’s totally within my control.
Aaaand the wedding is 7 months away, I need to find a dress. But I have so much anxiety about being behind the eightball timeline wise and having had this wedding spiral away from anything I remotely envisioned that I don’t even trust myself to know what I want. I’ve been looking at dresses (read: doomscrolling) and even trying to imagine myself in a bridal gown sends a bolt of acid through my very being. Part of it is all the permutations; I have some ideas about what I want but the number of different options is overwhelming me to the point of total dysfunction.
I’ve read a million “where should I buy a dress in Chicago” threads but my scrambled brain can’t figure out how apply them to myself. Where should I got to buy a dress that will just be like “wear this” and be able to look at me and know what’s gonna look good and help me find it? Budget is not really an issue, I’ll spend what I have to but $3k seems about right. I have no problem with samples and all else being equal would probably prefer a sample but I just want this handled whatever it takes. Also they need to take appointments but also have appointment availability (I can’t wait 2 months!!!)
(This has nothing to do with my partner, they are wonderful)
(I am writing this from my desk at work because it was either this or go dry heave in the bathroom)
TLDR where should I go to get a dress in Chicago that will tell me what to wear to look my best also I’m panicking 😩
