Do you have a Kitchen Aid mixer? I found the grinder attachment ($80) to work with small batches, gotta freeze the pieces also. That helped. Edit: you could go with a cast iron hand grinder, clamps on the counter top or a table. LEM makes one for about $60. If you shop around, I've seen them for $25. You'll get a hell of a workout, but it'll be fine for a pound or two. Old school cool. More on reddit.com

Be careful when buying chicken and turkey meat for cat food, a lot of them are injected with a brine solution which will absolutely fuck up your cat. I use pork for my homemade cat food, it's usually really easy to find at 1.50/lb or so. I add some pulverized egg shells (along with liver and hearts) and feed them a sardine and raw egg breakfast every few days, and a whole chicken drumstick (or wing, if your cat has weak teeth) once a week. I flirted with a meat grinder for this whole process but honestly you already have to cube the meat just to put it in the grinder and your cat can eat it at that stage anyway, so why bother? It's better for their jaw to chew the things. More on reddit.com

I'm looking to venture into sausage making for the first time and first step is to get a meat grinder.
I was looking at the Weston #10 as a cheap starter option. But I know a lot of people swear by LEM so I was looking at [this] (https://www.amazon.com/LEM-Products-Tinned-Clamp-Grinder/dp/B000BTLW8Y) as well. I'm definitely looking for a manual one based on price and because I don't plan on grinding a huge volume of meat anytime soon.
I don't want to spend a lot but I would also rather wait until I can afford a quality one if the only things in my price range are crap.
