You can never go wrong with a classic black suit. It’s versatile for other things too like interviews, funerals, formal or dressy events etc. Get one that’s properly tailored, not one that looks like it’s one size too small which is the trendy thing and will be out of fashion by the next time you need to dress up. Avoid wool. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

November 12, 2022 - Lighter colours like light grey, brown, tan, etc. are fine for summer weddings. ... It really doesn’t matter, you can really wear any normal color, blues, grays, black, Latakia tan, etc.

July 7, 2024 -

Getting married in September and still don't have suits for the wedding party. Bridesmaids will be in emerald green. I originally wanted the suits to be beige/tan because it's an outdoor daytime wedding with a garden party vibe, but my fiancé was very adamant that he didn't want tan because he's mixed race and "look what they said about Obama!" So I told him in that case I'd prefer either light gray or black (not garden party vibes but it at least wouldn't clash with the other colors too bad).

He went yesterday with his best man to pick out suits and tbh I'm just grateful they didn't buy anything because I hate what they picked out. The best man is very opinionated on style and when he heard "daytime in September, emerald bridesmaid dresses" and saw a pic of my dress he decided to go full cottagecore. I ended up getting sent photos of my fiancé in emerald pants, a sage vest, and an ivory jacket and it's not at all the vibe I was wanting and frankly I didn't think it even looked good together.

I don't want to go full bridezilla on this because it's already been really hard on fiancé (his family is crazy and have been not only unsupportive but completely opposed to us getting married) and I got to pick out what I'm wearing so my fiancé should be able to pick out what he's wearing too, but he's trying to match a dress he's never seen before and the best man and I have very different styles.

When he got home from trying on suits I told him I didn't love the idea of everyone being in green, it was too much for me, and I'd really just prefer light grey or beige for the men, with a strong preference for beige. Come to find out my fiancé was JOKING about not wanting beige because of Obama 🤦‍♀️ I probably would've figured out that he wasn't serious about it a lot sooner but he's generally very easy going so when he said he didn't want beige I didn't push it.

I guess next time I just have to go with them to go suit shopping. Was kinda hoping this was one thing I could delegate but apparently not 😂

r/malefashionadvice on Reddit: Summer Suit Color Suggestions
January 5, 2025 -

I've never owned a summer suit, and I have a long trip to France this summer that feels like a good prompt to expand my wardrobe with one. I'll want to wear it at a couple fancy restaurants in Paris and perhaps at something like the opera. I'm curious about folks' color. I'm particularly curious about whether some of the lighter colors would be appropriate in, for example, a Michelin 3 star restaurant in the evening. Light grey seems like an obvious choice, but I'd appreciate folks weighing in. I'm a fairly pale skinned tall and thin white guy.

I've liked Suit Supply in the past, so that's where I checked first. I saw some light grey, light green, light blue, and sand options that looked good. My biggest hesitation though is whether they'd work in an evening situation like the one it'll specifically be for. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,

Have a wedding (formal attire) that I'll be attending in may and originally I had planned to finally consider biting the bullet and going for a tailored suit but decided to leave that for another day mostly due to the cost and time frame to the wedding (4-6 weeks and would be cutting it very close).

To keep things short, ended up finding a nice light grey suit online thanks to some recent sales.

I had a couple of ideas in mind in terms of shirts / pants i.e, going for a two piece suit sort of look but not entirely sure on colour / accessories and I would love to hear your thoughts / opinions and suggestions around colour options, ties, pocket squares and other accessories based off of the photo's i've taken so far.

Colour options per the photo's but as per above open to other ideas:
Shirts - burgundy, navy, black, white
Pants - light grey, steel blue / navy

Not shown, at the time I was wearing a brown belt and shoes (chelsea style) but I do also have black alternatives of both.

Thank you in advanced,
Sneccers.

Go white shirt, allows for most use of ties / squares. I would go plain white square with a patterned tie, as it’s a wedding you could always have a subtle boutonnière Make sure you only do up the top button, also make sure you open those pockets and tuck in those flaps, will give a much sleeker look. Your sleeves are too long as well, see if you can get them sorted if you have time

You're right about the timeframe being too short to have a suit made to measure! I think you made the correct choice here. Just to be clear: it's only a suit if you wear the suit jacket and trousers together; otherwise it's just an odd jacket and trousers. A 'two piece suit' refers specifically to a suit jacket and trousers cut from the same cloth. In this instance, I would advise you to wear it as a suit - pale grey is a good choice for weddings, although this one looks a little tight across the chest and shoulders. Be sure to leave the lower button undone, as another commenter said. Definitely wear the white shirt - the other options are all far too dark to wear at this level of formality. In terms of ties and pocket squares, you have a lot of freedom as the grey suit/white shirt combination is extremely versatile. Pick a couple of colours you like and that complement each others. Pinks, purples, burgundies, pale blues, navies and golds will all work well - but you could even get away with a green or a yellow if feeling more daring. As it's a pale grey suit, brown shoes could work, but I would always suggest black shoes for a wedding. It will look smarter and more appropriate to the occasion. Just one final check: this is more a UK thing, but as you've said the dress code states 'formal attire,' are you absolutely sure you won't be required to wear morning dress?

Hi! Just looking for some advice on choosing a suit color for groom and groomsmen. For some details about our wedding, We are having a summer wedding, the ceremony will be in a rose garden! I really like the color sea glass from birdy grey for bridesmaids however I'm not sure what suit color would match this color as well as a garden 'vibe' any ideas? Or should I consider changing bridesmaid dress color to something more summery? Thank you!

What color suit should my groom wear? What can he do to look different than his groomsmen?? My dress has a darkish tanish/nude color underneath. Bridesmaids are in sky blue. And my mother’s dress is a dark purple. What color should I do the FOB and FOG and ring bears?! It is a formal wedding…. Would black be okay?! A blueish color?? My groom and I are pale, tan/beige. Wedding is in 2 months. Thank you for all your suggestions! I have been stressed about this decision for months

February 4, 2021 - I agree with u/flirtandflutter for color recommendations. It depends on the tone that you guys want to project in your wedding photos. A grey-green suit would give it an elfin, earthy vibe. The green would match with the forest tone but pop when directly contrasted with the redwoods.

reddit.com › r/malefashionadvice › advice about wedding suits - i'm getting married in june!
r/malefashionadvice on Reddit: Advice about wedding suits - I'm getting married in June!
July 9, 2015 -

I'm getting married in June! And I have no idea where to start on what I'm wearing!

I've been reading the MFA guide to dressing on your wedding day, but I think I'm still confused on some of the basics, and could definitely use some advice. I'm getting married in the Summer in Philadelphia, so it's going to be a little warm I think. The venue is somewhat formal, but also really fun and interesting - here's a couple of pictures from another wedding there.

I'm confused a bit on the different materials of suits, and the whole suit vs. tuxedo debate. I'm thinking I would want a lighter material because it'll be a little warmer, and I'm leaning more towards a suit than a tuxedo. I like the colors in this photo from the MFA guide - but not really sure what it is (blueish charcoal?). Also, I really like the whole groomsmen get suits, groom gets vest and suit, but I'm not really sure what that's called. A vested suit?

Also - where do I buy a suit?! I have a suit from Theory that I bought on eBay when I was 18, and a suit from Top Shop that I bought in NYC a few years ago, and they both fit me fairly well without alterations (size 38 on both). I tend to shop at stores that have slimmer cuts, because they usually look better on me.

I'm leaning more towards a suit just because I don't like how formal tuxedos are, and I'd like to be able to buy a suit and have it tailored. I'd also like my groomsmen to be able to buy suits, or use ones they already have, rather than renting something specifically for the day of. I feel like there's too much that could go wrong with that, especially since we are a bit spread out.

To sum it all up, my questions are:

  • What material should I be looking for in a suit

  • Where should I be looking?

  • Suit vs. Tuxedo

  • Vested suit?

  • Anything to help me stand out as the groom / what groomsmen should be wearing

  • Any other advice you have for me

Sorry if this post is a bit all over the place, I don't really know where to start with this, and I just have a ton of thoughts in my head with no cohesive element to bring them together.

EDIT: My budget is around 1k, but would rather spend less if possible. I could spend more if I thought it was worth it - but I'd like for groomsmen's suits to be a bit more affordable (maybe closer to 450) so that I can contribute some and bring the price down further for them. definitely looking for recommendations about where to shop

My husband only owns one suit and it is grey. It somehow came up that he’d be wearing that suit to my friend’s wedding, and she asked if he could not wear that one because the groom is wearing a grey suit. We didn’t know the groom would be wearing grey. The other kicker is that the groomsmen are wearing navy and she doesn’t want him to match them either. What other color options do the men have?!?!? I’m trying to be understanding but I think she’s doing too much.
