You thought writing a Reddit post was less work than opening a dictionary or using Google. night, noun, the period of darkness in each twenty-four hours; the time from sunset to sunrise. The key phrase being darkness. If there is still sun light at 5pm then it's not night. Where on earth are you getting this 5pm thing?

Night - Wikipedia
1 month ago - Night, or nighttime, is the period of darkness when the Sun is below the horizon. Daylight illuminates one side of the Earth, leaving the other in darkness. The opposite of nighttime is daytime. Earth's rotation causes the appearance of sunrise and sunset. Moonlight, airglow, starlight, and light pollution dimly illuminate night.

When is it "morning" and "night" for you?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we have two different very commonly used words for “evening” and “night”. Evening starts around 17:00, regardless of sunlight. In the winter at 17:00 it’s super dark, whereas in the summer at 17:00 there’s hours and hours until it gets dark. “Night” I’d say is 23-24 ish. I think it contributes that our schedule is different and that on a work day, the evening is your time off and we eat dinner in the beginning of the evening (for example I’ve heard from Spanish folks that they often at dinner at 23 and go to bed much later - 23 ish is where most people are headed to sleep here). “Night” is where that stops. Morning is very debated but somewhere between 4-6, some crazy people even say 3. In the summer it begins to get light again and birds start to sing at 3. More on reddit.com

Can anyone please clarify what "night" is?
But I've noticed people saying "night” and meaning like 8 pm, 7 pm, even 6... Well, it gets dark at 5 or 6PM part of the year where I live. So yeah, that would be night. But part of it is that the word "evening" is becoming less popular. Its frequently just "Morning, afternoon, Night" where I live. More on reddit.com

Here in Colombia morning starts between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. when sunlight appears, while night starts pretty much after 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
What about you? Specially in the northernmost countries.

I would say that in Spain morning starts around 6 or 7, and night starts around 21 or 22. We make the division of the day based a little bit on sunrise/sunset but mostly based around when we eat our meals.
