I have an old 6" bench grinder from HF that the stone is pretty well worn out and needs to be replaced. Is the bauer stone good quality? It would be nice if the replacement lasted several years like the originals (occasional use obviously) but im more concerned about it not exploding in my face.
Harbor freight has an eight inch, variable speed bench grinder on sale for about $122. I didn’t see a model number but it comes with a light. Would this work with the Wolverine to sharpen a bowl gouge?
I am looking at the Bauer bench grinder with attached LED lamp. It is normally $239, and on sale in my local store for $199. I also have a 15% coupon to use with it, so will be getting it for ~$175 after tax.
I just want some honest reviews from previous owners. Any reason to not go for it? Any safety concerns to be aware of? Any happy/successful metal smiths satisfied with the product? How long is the life expectancy? What is the required occasional maintenance, and the labor/financial costs of the maintenance?
I am looking for something that has medium to long term life expectancy with occasional use and minimal or no maintenance involved. My shop and operations are not that large and mostly consists of tool and knife and jewelry repairs, as well as a small metals refining/recycling operation.
