I'm no engineer, but that inside corner looks really unsupported. Are only bolts holding this thing together? If two people/children both rolled into the inside corner in top, wouldn't that generate a really big force on the outside bolts? We're up to 3 kids now and I hope to put a bunk together, but I'm super freaked about the structural elements. I feel like it needs a post, which would defeat the purpose of the bottom large bed. Sadly, there are a lot of judgmental posts in here. First off, one of them is noticeably autistic and is dealing with delayed development issues. He is not yet able to live on his own. When he is ready, he may choose to do so, and we will do everything in our power to make it happen. Second, like in most of the rest of the world, multiple generations living together can be a choice made willingly by adults. It is just like having a roommate, except that you already know what you're getting into. It allows adults to share expenses and enjoy a better standard of living, ongoing companionship, and so forth. In today's economy, it's often a smart choice. Constantly suggesting that it's some sort of failure on the part of the parents or means that the (adult) kids are just slackers isn't helpful, accurate, or meaningful. I'm looking to replace our full over full bunk with something a bit higher quality. We've had it for 8 years and the mattress supports are starting to bend a little. Curious what "high quality" bunk bed options are that won't break the bank?
I realize everyone has an opinion on bunk beds (especially in rentals), but I would just ask that you humor me on this and assume I don't have any other option. I'm simply looking for some higher quality options.

Ones made of real wood are better than ones made of metal or plywood - in terms of seeming high quality. Check facebook marketplace, kajiji etc. to see if you can get something solid wood? Any modern models from ikea or amazon or the like are going to be crap. Modern furniture is crap in general - but especially something that gets as much wear and tear as a bunk bed in a rental isn't going to last long looking nice.
