i am a handy'man' and a landscaper.

having read the lovely pants reviews here i was bracing myself to drop some cash on better work pants soon. jeans just do not cut it anymore.

i had several acid holes on the hip of the jeans i wore yesterday which all decided to join forces and show the world my granny panties. i had to go to farm supply anyways so looked in their clearance section for some cheap jeans to get me through the day.

i bought a pair of wrangler cargos: "riggs" they were $10 on sale. normally $40. i didnt expect much other than to be a backup pair and to cover my ass for the rest of the workday but i was really impressed and will probably buy a few more pairs.

the fabric is nice and cool, it was 90F and humid here and i worked outside on a retaining wall all day. they didnt stick to me like jeans do. dirt doesnt stick/work in to the fabric and wood shavinge etc brush right off.

i usually wear chaps when handling the big wall blocks so i can use my thighs for leverage but skipped them for the day so i could test out the durability. no signs of wear at all and skipping the chaps on a hot day was nice! for the record, denim wouldn't have lasted an hour under these conditions. they have double fronts with a vent that looks like some padding could be rolled up and tucked in for knee pads. the pockets rock- very well designed and durable. i am not worried about pruners poking through. even the front pockets were tough duck instead of flimsy cotton. i may be able to skip my toolbelt for smaller jobs.

downsides:
30 waist is the smallest size. i am 120/5'5" and a 30x32 fit fine (dont need a belt to stay up), but i like pants on the loose side.

they are not sexy, at all. the higher waist looks super nerdy with a shirt tucked in. the waist is not as bad as carhart mens pants though.

i actually like the higher waist, it holds the pants up over my big hips and doesnt dig in when i bend. i also like the way my tool belt sits higher on top of these pants. if a toolbelt goes above my pants it hikes up my shirt and chafes, if it goes lower on top of my jeans it sits around my pelvis all day and hurts my hips.

overall, these have the same fit issues i have with all mens jeans. if you like a snugger fit they may not work for you. at this point i don't care because i love that they are so functional and affordable. i have a pair of womens overalls from duluth and these are as good or better quality/design. and did i mention they are cheaper?
