September 13, 2024This is one of the better designed google sites i've seen. I'm interested to find well designed google sites. Anyone else got other examples to share. I'm interested to see how other google sites are designed.
I was proud of my attempt at creating our school site with Sites but it was ultimately dismissed because the school president wanted to use what his niece was using at another school, (paid...). It really depends on what kind of site you want to build. If you want a blog-like site that has regular updates then Google Sites won't work. Same if you want lots of customisation.
However, for sites that are more information repositories, portfolios, businesses etc it's quite good and really easy to use.
If you'd like, you can take a look at the two sites I've made with it. Head to jmdworks.org to see my portfolio. Once there, click on "Collections" in the menu to open the second site.

I have been looking for a cheap alternative to our current website (using Wix) which is only co-owned by our organisation (a start up housing co-op with virtually no budget currently) as someone else set it up for us but didn't seem to fully understand what they were doing. We use Google docs and sheets for all our documentation and email so that makes sense but I have seen a lot of fundamental issues that have required people to take their sites elsewhere.
What is the general user experience like?

I find Google sites can quickly dissolve into ugliness if someone without a design eye starts getting creative. If you stick to a simple style, it's the easiest thing going. Here's my club site I work on the most: https://www.splitrockoutdoors.ca/
