After months of searching for the best somewhat reasonably priced digital piano, the p515 stood out and received outstanding reviews everywhere I looked. I valued sound quality over everything and the p515 was supposed to take the cake with its super fancy CFX and Bösendorfer samples. I received the piano, plugged it in, and well……. I wasn’t impressed. Coming from an old YPG-235, I figured this p515 would be leaps and bounds ahead of what I had been using. It just sounded so….fake. I figured it must have been the settings so I fiddled around with them for 3 days….no dice. The sound seemed muddy as if the samples were recorded with a t-shirt over the microphone. I couldn’t believe it. All of these reviews said this thing was amazing and frequently commented on the clarity and depth. Surely my unit was defective? I go to an organ sample and the sound was very crisp and clear. This leads me to believe that unfortunately, my speakers are not defective, the piano just sucks (to me atleast). I’m sure some of you have a p515 and love it, i wish I was there with you. I’m still in disbelief and still think something isn’t quite right with my unit, Yamaha rarely misses the mark in my experience. Any advice? Other brands/ modes to try? Am I asking too much from a $1,500 piano?
