Why YSK: YYYY-MM-DD is the International (ISO) Standard format for dates. This format makes the most sense for reasons of sorting and also eliminates any confusion due to different date formatting in different regions. This is especially useful when you have files in a folder that have dates in the name.

I work as a data analyst for a company with both US and UK offices so always use this format to avoid the confusion of which date format I am using. I’m UK based so all my Computers default to ddmmyyyy and it can cause no end of problems extracting US data. I also have used the Yyyy-mm-dd format for naming files since I can first remember because it was easier to sort in windows file explorer.

It appears that what really happened is that the UK changed its formats from a “traditional” English style of writing the month as “month day, year” in longhand to using a “Continental” style of “day month year” sometime in the early 19th century, possibly around the time of the Napoleonic Wars.

I bought this from a Belgian (I think) online store that sells American products because I wanted to taste these famous peanut butter cups and I was surprised to see the dates like this. So is this date system also used in American English after all? 🤔
BTW, it doesn't seem to be a European imported version of the product.
