yea / yeah / yay | Common Errors in English Usage and More | Washington State University
“Yea” is a very old-fashioned formal way of saying “yes,” used mainly in voting. It’s the opposite of—and rhymes with—“nay.” When you want to write the common casual version of “yes,” the correct spelling is “yeah” (sounds like “yeh” ).

Is it "Yes"-es, "Yes"es, or "Yes"'s?

While we are here, what is the deal with the increasingly common perception that words ending in vowels somehow need an apostrophe to be pluralized? This seems to be a distinct error from the one where all plurals get apostrophes.

The Spell "Shout" -- SR: Yes (Object)?
Spell Resistance : The terms "object" and "harmless" mean the same thing for spell resistance as they do for saving throws. A creature with spell resistance must voluntarily lower the resistance (a standard action) in order to be affected by such spells without forcing the caster to make a caster level check. Saving Throws : (object): The spell can be cast on objects, which receive saving throws only if they are magical or if they are attended (held, worn, grasped, or the like) by a creature resisting the spell, in which case the object uses the creature's saving throw bonus unless its own bonus is greater. This notation does not mean that a spell can be cast only on objects. Some spells of this sort can be cast on creatures or objects. A magic item's saving throw bonuses are each equal to 2 + 1/2 the item's caster level. More on reddit.com

In older usage yes was usually considered to be the proper affirmative reply to a question framed in the negative, whereas yea (yea adv. A.1a) was considered the proper affirmative reply when the question was framed in the positive (cf. sense A.1c); a similar distinction was made between no and nay.

What Is The Difference Between "Yea" vs. "Yeah"? - Dictionary.com
February 25, 2021 - While yea (and yes) have been around far longer than the word yeah (it looks like yea and yes can be traced back to the 900s) the sentiment has been around forever. While the three words once meant the same thing, it appears that the H was added on to distinguish the two meanings above and to move the word forward into the new century. There does not seem to be any clear reason for the addition of the H other than maybe to modernize the spelling of yea.

Yay, Yea, Yeah: What's the Difference?: Grammar Tip
April 2, 2024 - Even Spell Check doesn’t know the difference. It’s a trivial thing, and most people don’t care. But I do. ... Yeah, it’s, like, teenager talk. “Yeah” is pronounced yah-uh. This is not a celebration word. This isn’t something you’d say when a friend has a new grandbaby born on her birthday (as the email I received told me). It’s slang. It means “yes” or “whatever.” Sometimes we even use it with "so" to make it even more casual (or obnoxious), “Yeah, so, I was bored.” Big freakin’ deal.

Why does the spell 'yes', spell 'eyes' trick work? - Quora
Answer (1 of 4): It’s an anchoring trick, similar to many others that have been passed along. By asking the first question, “what does Y-E-S spell?” you cause the person to make the connection in their brain between the letters “Y-E-S” and the word “yes.” When you then ask the second question, “...
