Videos
Anybody else having issues with YouTube after the update? Videos aren't playing, and when they do, it's a different video.
I use YouTube via Brave browser to avoid ads, both on my phone and computer.
This morning I noticed I couldn't minimize brave on my phone and still listen to videos anymore, they'll keep pausing until I reopen the browser.
I'm watching videos on my computer and while full screened, I noticed I couldn't scroll down and see comments anymore. I have to minimize the video then scroll.
Does anyone know if this is related to a YouTube update? I can't find anything about youtube or Brave updating so I'm not sure what happened.
TYIA!!
After the latest chrome update (Version 122.0.6261.69), youtube is somehow manages to show ads even though ublock is active and this breaks the video loading sometimes.
On Firefox videos are loading fast and without ads.
At least on iPhone, YouTube has recently updated their app (I believe the update is from 2/7/24) and you cannot open the app on iPhone unless you update. A message will pop up automatically telling you that you must update to continue.
I have opted not to update the app yet until I heard from others. What’s with the force update??? Usually you get a choice, and unless your version of the app is so old that it ceases to function properly due to lack of support, you’re still able to use it. That’s not the case this time.
Has anyone updated to the most recent version of the YouTube app yet? What’s Google’s logic behind forcing people to update to the latest version?
Well..i just update the yt app and now the app doesn't let me in. I keep clicking on it and it sends me back every time. What's going on..what do i do with this..
Youtube, for whatever reason, seems to be assuming I'm using an outdated browser and is not allowing me to watch live streams or change the video quality to anything above 720p. I'm using the latest version of Firefox. Resetting site cache and cookies hasn't done anything, nor does using the site in troubleshoot mode or on a private window work so its not any of my addons. I'm really baffled as to what's happening here, any help would be appriciated
A bit over a year ago, I noticed that when I went to update my apps in the play store, a problem kept appearing with YouTube: "couldn't update". It was strange but ultimately didn't matter. This was until the last month or so, when YouTube required the user to update the app in order to access the main page. So in order to use the app, I need to update it, which I can't do.
What have I tried? First idea was to reinstall the app, but I can't do that because YouTube was preinstalled with Android. The next idea was to clear my cache and memory in the app. This did work, but only the first time I tried it. I closed the app, reopened it, and was back to where I was. Clearing cache/memory has not worked since then either.
So now I'm stumped, and I'm forced to use the browser version of YouTube. Google's help page is super shallow about this issue as well. Anyone have any ideas? Additionally, why could it be that the app isn't able to update?
YouTube links open in chrome browser instead of YouTube app.
Device: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
Carrier: AT&T
OS: Android 12, One UI version 4.0
Chrome version 99.0.4844.58
Steps to experience the issue:
-
Open the Chrome app.
-
Paste the following URL into the address bar at the top of the browser: https://youtu.be/KmtzQCSh6xk
-
Tap the enter key or whatever it's called.
Current behavior: Upon executing the above steps, the web based version of the YouTube video will load into the browser.
Desired behavior: The video should open within the YouTube app.
Things I have tried which did not work:
Settings->Apps->YouTube ->Set as default->Open supported links (enabled)
Settings->Apps->Choose default apps ->Open links in app (enabled).
Settings->Apps ->Choose default apps->Opening Links ->YouTube->Open supported links (enabled).
Restart phone.
Uninstall and reinstall YouTube: can not uninstall YouTube because it is a system app. I was able to uninstall the updates and then reinstall them.
Uninstall and reinstall Chrome: can not uninstall Chrome because it is a system app. I was able to uninstall the updates and then reinstall them.
Other relevant information: This is a brand new phone. I just got it a few days ago.
I tried using the default Samsung "internet" browser. Did not work there either despite enabling "open links in other apps" within the in-app settings.
I'm at my wits end. Hoping I don't have to do a factory reset to resolve this. Please help, thank you!
Edit: after continuing to troubleshoot I found that links found on the web and links sent through Signal open the YouTube app as expected. It is only when I paste a URL directly into the address bar that the video loads within the browser instead of the YT app.
Edit 2: Tried installing Vanced and editing the relevant settings. Behavior was unchanged.
Edit 3: I found a workaround: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tasomaniac.openwith
