videos not playing, videos dissapearing when you drag them down into a window, videos starting from the very beginning again and videos stopping... these have made YouTube genuinely unbearable and unusable to me, it all started today, i realized that YouTube had added the dragging down to find a new video feuture to long form content (which is absolutely useless), and then i started experiencing all the bugs

r/youtube on Reddit: Why are there so many problems with the YouTube mobile app on Android?

I don't know if I'm the only one being affected by this, but I pay for Premium, but yet on the mobile app for Android I'm still getting tons of bugs every time:

  1. I'm unable to read comments on any video, no matter if I'm connected to Wi-Fi or Mobile Data.

  2. Some times when I get a notification to watch a new video and click it to go and watch it, it says your Administrator has restricted this video and doesn't even show that video in that YouTube Channel. (I have restrictions off and if I go and check for that video on my laptop browser it's there and it works).

  3. And this one is specific to YouTube Music but when I try to add music to some playlists it shows them as it is added, it shows up in the count but I won't be able to see it in my playlist.

But all of these issues I mentioned are still persistent and exist after many updates, I've tried clearing cache, data, and reinstalling the app but it's still the same, but non of these issues exist with the website on my laptop.

Is there any solution to this?

I just got back from a family event, where several people are avid watchers of my channel (house renovation documentary). Three seperate people asked me why I haven't posted in months. They were surprised to hear I've been posting every two weeks. YouTube hasn't been showing them my videos.

My views recently plummeted from 4K to 400. I have 1.9k subs, and all are pretty loyal watchers.

If you're views have dropped, it's not you.

r/youtube on Reddit: Issue with YouTube on Android After Recent Update - Video Playback Problems
August 23, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I wanted to bring attention to a problem I've been experiencing on the YouTube app for Android after the most recent update. When I play a video in full screen and then exit full screen, the video pauses automatically. Even worse, I lose all control over the video playback—there are no play/pause buttons, and I can’t resume the video unless I go back to full screen mode.

Additionally, when I try to minimize the video (to use the picture-in-picture feature or multitask), instead of appearing as a floating video, the video completely disappears from the screen. The only way I can get it back is by going into my YouTube history and reopening it from there.

To fix this, I had to roll back to the previous version of the YouTube app by removing all updates, which made everything work normally again. But I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue or if there’s a known solution for it?

If you have any advice or fixes, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

As you can see my profile pic and button plus the UIe lower screen are not showing up in my YouTube mobile app.

I'm still logged in because I can add videos to my playlists and see my account still subscribed to a channel.

Now I have two accounts on YT. The first one was hacked then messed up and the automated Help was no help so I made a new one. When I switch to that account the UI shows up then when I switch to my second used account they disappear.

Anyone else experiencing this? How to fix it?

r/androidapps on Reddit: No longer able to use YouTube app because it won't update
March 28, 2025 -

A bit over a year ago, I noticed that when I went to update my apps in the play store, a problem kept appearing with YouTube: "couldn't update". It was strange but ultimately didn't matter. This was until the last month or so, when YouTube required the user to update the app in order to access the main page. So in order to use the app, I need to update it, which I can't do.

What have I tried? First idea was to reinstall the app, but I can't do that because YouTube was preinstalled with Android. The next idea was to clear my cache and memory in the app. This did work, but only the first time I tried it. I closed the app, reopened it, and was back to where I was. Clearing cache/memory has not worked since then either.

So now I'm stumped, and I'm forced to use the browser version of YouTube. Google's help page is super shallow about this issue as well. Anyone have any ideas? Additionally, why could it be that the app isn't able to update?

Why?

Why change the way you add videos to the Playlist? It was working fine, just as it had been since YouTube started.

The new update has made it so that you can no longer add videos to multiple Playlists at once you now have to individually pick the Playlist you want to add the video to. Adding videos takes longer now. And if you happen to accidentally add a video to the wrong Playlist you have to hit the button again to uncheck it. Then hit the Add Playlist button again to add the video to the desired Playlist. Before you can do any of this within the same action.

What is the logical purpose of taking away that feature?

I pay for YouTube premium and I just hate the new update. The biggest thing is the mini player inside the app, it used to be a bar at the bottom of the screen like in Spotify, a swipe down closes the video, a swipe up opens the large player. Now I just get this floating window that's obstructing more content and closing it is a nightmare, you either need to press the X or swipe it down but that is harder than it sounds - I need to try like 3 or 4 times before it closes... Also sometimes the main player just freezes and I can't press the pause button, what's up with that?

The only thing I actually like about the update is that it asked me if I want to see less shorts.

Everything new they added that I noticed a change was for the worse, when pressing two times to skip 10 seconds ahead in a video it opens up some garbage because it has a bunch of stuff in front of the place I used to press, when I push the video down to minimize it, now it goes to another video, I have YouTube premium, and when I go to another tab, instead of it being a little bar at the bottom, now it is a square with the video like on PC, it blocks some content, and it sometimes vanishes but I can still hear the video, what the hell? How do I rollback this update? Is there an app or something? I'm only making this post because I was watching a video, and accidentally changed it four times, this is pissing me off.

So recently YouTube updated and changed a bunch of UI. For some reason this has done two things to me 1.my history is now completely gone. It still records my history but it won't show up on my channel tab 2.shorts are completely gone. I can still watch them if I get a YouTube notification for one but I have no means of accessing them. 3. Whenever I try to access a channel page YouTube hits me with an error screen. I am unable to look at any channels whatsoever.

This new update has kinda ruined the app. I can understand adding USEFUL features, but who in their right mind decided itd be a good idea to make it to where you cant search or scroll while a video is minimized!? What's the point of even having a minimizing option if you cant even do anything while its minimized!? Theres not a single user that can benefit from or enjoy this "feature". If youre going to add these new features atleast give people the option to undo them if they dont like it instead of just forcing it upon everyone and ruining the app for them. Ive been paying for premium forever, but whats the point of even paying for something you can barely enjoy now?

Howdy. I have a galaxy j3 luna pro, android version 6.0.1 and up until a few weeks ago it was working like a treat for my media center purposes. Didn't use it the one day, and came back to that error.

I've tried everything i can find in terms of ways to roll the youtube version back and blocking it from updating. It'll work for a day or two, then give the same error.

Using a different device is out of the question. I have to keep using this device, a newer one (like my actual phone) is incompatible the setup. It also has to be the youtube app, or for that matter any app that offers screen off play. I've tried multiple browsers and none allow play while the screen is off.

Are there any solutions to the situation or am i basically SOL and will need to effectively use two devices?
